Takapuna Bowling Club's Rebecca Brosnan and former member Shaun Goldsbury, won the Bowls North Harbour Champion of Champion 1-5 year singles titles played at the Mahurangi East club at the weekend.
Rebecca, representing the club having won our 1-5 year Singles championship for the 2025-26 season, comfortably won the womenโs title, with none of her three opponents reaching double figures.
And Shaun, now with Manly Bowling Club Hibiscus Coast after having played at Takapuna in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, won the menโs title, beating Hobsonvilleโs Navind Singh in a tense final, 21-20.
Before moving to Manly Shaun enjoyed considerable success in his two seasons with Takapuna, winning our 1-5 year championships, as well an open title in 2022-23 in the triples.
Shaun beat our menโs representative, Tony Wickens, 21-4 at the weekend in the quarter-finals.
Rebecca is one of Takapunaโs plural members, a fourth-year bowler who plays mostly for the Royal Oak Bowling Club in Auckland and is an Auckland centre junior representative.
Clearly, she is a bowler with immense promise. In the semi-final she beat Birkenheadโs Jeni Hart, who was briefly with Takapuna last season and preceded Rebecca as the 1-5 year singles champion, 21-5, and in the final beat Mairangi Bayโs Julie Chhour 21-6.
