First Nelson Speedway practice is September 26th at 2pm… which means the countdown is officially ON!!!

At the moment my is doing a VERY good impression of a finished race car… just don’t look too closely!!?!! 🔍

She’s painted, the motor is in and things are definitely starting to look race car-ish again. There are just a few small things left… you know a dash, the graphics, making sure she starts… all those little things!!?!

We’re changing things up a little this season. Don’t panic… the teal isn’t going anywhere!!! But after last season we decided my was allowed a bit of a glow-up?!
New body, new bonnet and some other changes that I’m VERY excited about. I’d show you now… but apparently “building suspense” is a thing, so you’ll just have to wait for the big reveal… but Dad did make me bleed the brakes to make sure I know where that pedal is this season??!! 😂

So while Dad and I still have a race car to finish up, today we thought we’d take a family outting to the Youth Ministocks working bee at Nelson Speedway.
Dad, Lily, Dan and I chose to take some signs for a Sunday drive and then hang them up - high stress right there.
Then came cleaning of and out of the speedway official vehicles… I can confirm my future career plans still do NOT include vehicle groomer!!??

Mum was on the water blaster and somehow managed to clean everything except herself. She finished absolutely CAKED in dirt 🤣. Rookie.

A really good day… especially with awesome people to make the less pretty jobs a bit more fun.

But back to the exciting bit…FOUR WEEKS until I finally get to stop looking at freshly painted race car parts and actually DRIVE back on the track. Although between now and then we still need to make it start, stop and look pretty… apparently all 3 are considered pretty important 🤷‍♀️

We’ve got four weeks
No pressure Dad 😏 🧐

Progress report... because good things don't build themselves!!!!

The old girl has officially been sandblasted and undercoated which can only mean one thing... she's getting ready to wear her fresh new outfit!!

Every little job gets us closer to hearing that engine fire up and be back where we belong… covered in clay instead of dust!??!

Huge shoutout to Dad and Stu for keeping the ball rolling and making sure this thing doesn't become another permanent shed ornament. 😂 off season??? What’s that??!!

The best part - We’re only just getting started!!!?!

OFF SEASON UPDATE:

The motor's removed and off getting pampered while the Pit Crew, aka Dad and Stu, are giving the chassis some love!!?!!

Fresh steel. Fresh engine. Fresh graphics. Same driver.

Let's see how long the "straight" part lasts. 🤪

Safe to say Prizegiving went a little better than expected.... the plan was simple - turn up, have a feed, clap for everyone else, and head home.

Instead I somehow came away with:

- Youth Ministock Most Grid Starts 2025/2026 (shared)
- Youth Ministock Best Presented 2025/2026

Apparently if you spend enough weekends at the speedway, they start handing you awards for it. 😂

The Most Grid Starts award is something I'm really proud of. Speedway throws heaps of things your way throughout the season so being able to make it to the grid week after week is thanks to everyone behind the scenes who keeps my car ready to race...

Best Presented that's a pretty cool one to win when racing literally involves throwing dirt at a perfectly clean race car.

A huge thank you to the team at Collision Centre Richmond for getting behind the teal theme...even when they thought I was crazy...and making sure the stood out from the crowd!!!! Also the few small touch ups through the season...someone should really try and keep my car on the straight and narrow???

And of course, a massive thank you to High Rev for bringing the flame stickers to life. I grew up around classic cars so the flame idea was always going to end up on my car. I'm pretty sure they bring the extra horsepower??!!

A huge thank you to my family, sponsors, pitcrew, and everyone who has supported me throughout this season. These awards are as much yours as they are mine.

Congratulations to all the award winners last night and thanks to the Nelson Speedway club and volunteers for putting together a great season and prizegiving.

Now the pressure is on... apparently when you win Best Presented you are expected to keep it looking that way... Which is sad, because race season starts again eventually. 😂🏁

Well, that's a wrap on the 2025/2026 speedway season!

Yesterday i took the out for a spin at Sunset Speedway Westport to see what she was made of… turns out she's a little different to my trusty ... and by "different" I mean she actually likes to stay on the track instead of hanging the tail out like I'm used to. 😅

It was a big week at HQ this week - stickers off, seat swapped, belts moved, and everything reset to fit yours truly. Safe to say it takes a bit more effort to squeeze into the … not a graceful process!!!!

Race 1: Grid 1 - finished 4th.
Had a little smooch with the wall coming out of Turn 4 while learning that doesn't drift quite like mine!??!!
Race 2: Grid 5 - finished 6th. Still trying to drive it like I stole it.
Race 3: Grid 9 - finished 7th. We'd spent the first two races getting acquainted. By race three the was finally throwing some attitude and I was all for it!!!

Thanks to our awesome pit neighbours for all the laughs and support throughout the day. The pits is always better when you're surrounded by good people!!!

Big thanks also to all the volunteers, officials, supporters, and everyone behind the scenes who made the racing possible Sunset Speedway Westport.

Special shoutout to my Gruss and Rach for coming along to watch and bringing my cheeky cousin Mack along to experience all the action.

Well... apparently feeding race car people is just as expensive as racing them!!!

Last night we wrapped up my first season behind the wheel of with an end-of-season BBQ to say a massive THANK YOU to the incredible sponsors, supporters, mentors, family and friends who helped make it all possible.

35 people turned up over the night - and by the end of it they demolished platters, chips and dip, a full BBQ spread of steak, sausages, kebabs and rolls... proving that race teams can definitely move faster than the speed of light when food is involved!!!!?!

Special mention goes to the real winners of the evening – the pavlova, stuffed mushrooms and scotch eggs. They disappeared quicker than a fresh set of tyres on a slick track!

I also had the chance to give a speech and properly thank everyone who has backed me through my very first season. From those who shared knowledge, lent a hand in the pits, cheered from the sidelines, or invested in my racing journey – none of this would have happened without you.

To top it all off, our second car arrived yesterday and was dropped off just in time for the party - Thanks Bella and family for parting with your much loved car.

Thank you all for being part of the IndiJayd Motorsport journey. The first season may be nearly done, but we're only just getting started!!!!

Here’s my speech from last night:

Before this speech gets longer than a rain delay, I just want to say a massive thank you to all my sponsors, family, friends, and everyone who’s backed me through my first season racing in Youth Ministocks.

Jumping into speedway has been one heck of a ride…. loud, fast, slightly sideways at times…. and there’s no way I could have done it without all your support. Racing isn’t exactly a cheap sport… apparently tyres, fuel, and fixing the bits I accidentally “rearrange” all cost money. Who knew?!!???

To my sponsors: thank you for believing in me and helping get me out on the track this season. Because of your support, I’ve been able to learn heaps, build confidence, and enjoy every second of racing. I’m incredibly grateful you took a chance on me in my very first season…. hopefully I’ve made it look like a good investment so far!

To my family and everyone behind the scenes: thank you for all the late nights/early mornings, towing, wrenching, washing, organising, and testing your patience. There’s a lot more to speedway than just driving laps, and I appreciate every single thing you do to help make race days happen!
This season has already taught me so much, and I’m excited to keep learning, improving, and hopefully spending more time at the front than facing the wrong direction!!!??!
Thank you again for believing in me, supporting me, and being part of this journey. I truly couldn’t do it without you all.

NZ Ministock Champs Oxford Speedway

Well… Oxford definitely lived up to the hype. Absolute carnage, full noise, freezing mornings!

DAY 1
Started off in the yellow group from Grid 4 and crossed the line 8th on a VERY wet track. Honestly pretty sure someone dropped me into a boat race because I spent most of the time surfing around!!

Dad changed the setup for race 2 to try find me some traction… my car was about as hooked up as Mum trying to count laps 🤦‍♀️

Race 2 - Grid 10, finished 9th
Race 3 - Grid 10 again and finished 8th.

Ended the day 9th overall in my group on points which I was actually pretty stoked with.... especially considering I stayed OUT of the Oxford ditch all day (drifting the edge doesn’t count???!!). Apparently that’s basically a trophy in itself around here!!!!

DAY 2
Straight into the repercharge after just missing the top 6 for the final. Started Grid 3 and finished 5th… unfortunately needed 1st or 2nd to make the NZ title race. Into Best of the Rest which honestly is just a polite way of saying more chaos incoming!!!

A few mishaps changed the race program during the day which meant we were all trying to decode a muffled loudspeaker from the other end of the pits to figure out when we were racing next!! Had us sitting on the edge of our seats all day… literally… helmets on, belts half done up, listening like it was a secret FBI announcement.

Had grids 11, 2 and 15 through my next races and definitely got my moneys worth! Without the MyLaps system Mum was trying her best counting results but I’m pretty sure she was just making numbers up by the end of it 🤣

4 restarts in one race, a full 180 spin with head-on impact, also found myself involved in another car rolling … I’d like to say I was just an innocent bystander but apparently Oxford doesn’t really do quiet races and I had nowhere to go at short notice…one VERY short-lived brand new front bumper...Gone too soon - Glad the other driver was ok!

My favourite race was my last race where my car knew the assignment! One spin and two restarts later…starting off the back… decided to put the jandal up it and pass cars one by one - Finished 9th.

Watching the other races was nearly as fun as racing in them. At one point a car came flying over the bank...smashed through the mesh fence...took out a pole...and landed upside down on the road into the pits!!!! Definitely got everyone’s attention 😳 Thankfully the driver was also ok.
There were rolls everywhere... constant ditch removal missions and a few cars even ended up parked ON TOP of the bank behind the ditch… honestly Oxford should start charging rent for all the cars trying to move in there??!!

Massive thanks to all the volunteers and everyone at Oxford Speedway for putting the event together…loved finally seeing what all the noise was about! Also all the sponsors who support this meeting - Won an angle grinder because apparently Oxford Speedway could already tell I’d need it afterwards 😂

Thanks to all the other competitors who attended… The pits had such a cool atmosphere all weekend. BBQs going, coffee cups in hands and heaps of people helping each other out. Beautiful weather all weekend … even if it was -1 in the morning 🥶 Character building stuff.
