Get them off the screen and onto the water this summer.

Sandspit Yacht Club’s Learn to Sail programme is back for Term 4, giving local kids aged 9 to 16 the chance to build confidence, independence and real sailing skills on the water at Algies Bay.

No boat and no previous sailing experience needed.

For complete beginners, Start Sailing is an 8 week after school programme running on Wednesdays or Fridays from the week of 12 October, 4 to 7pm.

Qualified coaches

Club boats provided

Learn the basics in a safe, supportive club environment

Meet new people and build confidence on the water

$300 for the full 8 week first term, just $37.50 per session including boat hire

Already have some sailing experience?

We also have pathways into Sailing Fast and Go Racing, with club racing available for those ready for the next challenge.

Sailing is a hands on club activity, so a parent or caregiver stays during the session and helps with simple shore based activities. No sailing experience required.

Term 4 places are limited and enrolments are now open.

TAKE THE HELM THIS OCTOBER

Do you have a child or grandchild that has never been in a sailing dinghy before?

Or has tried sailing at school camp and loved it and wants to do more?

Or is ready to develop their skills and begin racing and wants to race weekly in a local environment?

Well there is a programme designed for them.

Expressions of interest are now open for the Sandspit Yacht Club Centreboard Division’s October Learn to Sail programmes at Algies Bay.

Learn to Sail 1: Start Sailing
For complete beginners learning the fundamentals.

Learn to Sail 2: Sailing Fast
For young sailors ready to build confidence, boat control and capability.

Learn to Sail 3: Go Racing
For developing sailors ready to take their skills to the next level.

The programme is about much more than sailing.

Children develop confidence, independence, teamwork, practical skills and respect for the marine environment.

Parents are also encouraged to become part of the experience, with opportunities to learn about launching boats, driving the tractor, operating safety boats and first aid.

The October programme is open to young people from Snells Beach, Algies Bay, Warkworth, Matakana, Omaha, Leigh, Wellsford, Kaipara Flats and throughout the greater Rodney area.

To express your interest, email [email protected].

Programme information, costs and requirements are available at:

What a day at the Sandspit Centreboard Autumn Regatta

A fantastic regatta today with great racing across the fleet. The wind delivered exactly what we needed, creating some competitive and exciting sailing out on the water.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners – well deserved results after a strong day of racing.

It was also great to see sailors travelling in from across the region, adding to both the competition and the atmosphere.

A big thank you to all the club members and volunteers who helped run the event. From race management through to setup and support on the day, these events only happen because of the effort behind the scenes.

Appreciate everyone who came down and supported it.

A great day for the club.
