ALPHA

ALPHA We are ALPHA β€” a humble yet tenacious bunch of athletes with a passion for the small-sided game. Currently looking for a bigger trophy cabinet, any offers?

ALPHA is team of passionate footballers situated north of Auckland, currently dominating the 5-a-side and 7-a-side competitions this side of the bridge. We're a mix of male and female players, most of which play at a relatively high club level during the winter. We love our small-sided footy, and we love being Alphas!

THE WAIT IS OVER
It's been a minute since ALPHA last took to the pitch, but the team is back and ready to kick some balls! Starting off the 2019-20 summer season is the annual FootballFix tournament at QBE Stadium β€” can ALPHA keep up their unbeaten streak at this glorious venue? Rumour has it this is the biggest mixed tournament yet!

Kemp had this to say ahead of the big day:
"It's been a long time since we've taken to the pitch, but I'm excited to dust off my left foot and put it to good use. I'm also looking forward to wearing the new kit, it's not quite as bad as West Ham's colours, but it'll do."

When asked about the team line-up, team captain and box-to-box midfielder, Martin, said:
"We've got one or two new Alphas joining the squad this season in McQuoid and Marshall. Yes, it's true, we've had to break the bank to meet their salary demands β€” so here's hoping they can deliver or we might find ourselves in a bit of financial trouble before the season has even started!"

Alpha's first match kicks-off at 9am somewhere around those artifical pitches at QBE. Tune in today for updates, and go the All Blacks!

QBE IN THE BAG
Alpha polished off their first tournament of the 18/19 FootballFix Summer Series today! Unbeaten over the entire day, and unbeaten at QBE (period), the squad only conceded 2 goals the entire day and scored 19 in only 6 games!

Alpha stopper, Andrew Creevey, whilst losing a considerable amount of blood through his skinless knees, had this to say: "We did well and executed the gameplan perfectly, just how we trained for the last 12 months. Our sights are now set on 2019 and hopefully my knees will be healed by then ."

πŸ₯‡ 17/18 OVERALL CHAMPIONS, AGAIN πŸ₯‡
After a hard-fought 7-a-side footy campaign this summer, Alpha once again proved their worth β€” winning all 3 tournaments (Albany, Waiheke and Matakana) and thus being crowned overall FootballFix Summer Series champions once again!

Matakana's MOTM and the Series' MVP, Eamon Borer, had this to say of the summer campaign: "What can I say, it all feels pretty surreal to be honest! It's been two weeks and it still feels so... I'm, I'm speechless. It's a great time to be alive. Credit to the whole squad for consistently putting in a shift across all 3 tournaments. And of course, thanks to the fans, they kept us going in those tough games where our sunburn hurt more than our shins."

Alpha is looking to finish their summer off with another trophy in their Mixed 5-a-side league, where they're currently top of the table and unbeaten with 5 weeks remaining.

A huge shout out to all of our Alphas, our supporters, and communities! Until next summer... ✊⚽

17/18 Squad: Asher, Eamon, Cameron, Andrew, Jon, Alex, Daniel, Stacey, Sian, Connie, Lisa, Molly, Casey, Aneka, and Arabella.

πŸ† CHAMPIONS OF ALBANY πŸ†
Not only did Alpha cement their status as undefeated 5-a-side champions earlier in the week, but we also took out the big trophy at the QBE Mixed 7-a-side tournament today, unbeaten!

The morning group stages started out a little slow, winning 2-1 in the first game. But it wasn't long before the Alphas soon found their rhythm and the goals started flowing, with back-to-back wins 3-1, 3-1, and 6-0 consecutively, ending the group stages strong.

The afternoon brought much tougher games, with tired legs beginning to show. A tidy Martin-to-Martin combination saw the team through to the final with a close 1-0 victory.

Heading into the grand final was Manchester T***y, current winners of the Mixed 5-a-side in Albany. With plenty of doubters heading into the final, Alpha was ready to get stuck in again! Straight from kick-off, Alpha found themselves on the back foot after a heap of early pressure and an unlucky deflection off the referee in midfield. The game was soon tied at 1-1, with Daniel Cyra heading home a well-delivered corner β€” a much needed response! Alpha then began to heap on the pressure in the second half, with Aneka Mittendorff and Molly Flynn bossing the midfield, and thanks to some connecting play from Arabella Maynard around the box, Alpha was awarded a direct free-kick β€” Asher Trotter finishing bottom corner with a curling outside foot shot, making it 2-1. Alpha had only just reset themselves when they were again under quick pressure, with Manchester T***y levelling the game once again, 2-2. Some quick breaks followed, and a well-weighted through ball from Casey Klyn found Asher who calmly finished, 3-2 with 5mins to go. Alpha really had to dig deep, with every able player doing full laps to defend and Andrew Creevey a barrage of powerful shots from Manchester's (rumoured-to-be-All-White) male players β€” only then to find Jon Burns just past halfway, smashing home the cushion, with the game ending 4-2 to Alpha.

Alpha will be meeting Manchester T***y again soon, with our highly-anticipated return to our unbeaten 5-a-side arena next week!

ALPHA CONFIRMS NEW SIGNING
The English international, Jon Burns, put pen to paper on a long-term contract after completing his medical yesterday for a fee of Β£9.8m. "It's a dream come true", Jon said in his first pre-match interview, "Obviously I’m delighted. There’s been a lot of speculation over the last couple of weeks but I’m glad that the deal’s finally been done and I’m an Alpha player."

Jon is set to make his debut in about 30 minutes. Stay tuned for a full highlight reel of Jon's first Alpha appearance 😎

BY THE WAY, WE WON (AGAIN) πŸ˜†
Alpha's ego continues to grow after yet another successful 5-a-side season! This time the trophy didn't come easy with Alpha being down 9-3 at halftime! Luckily, the Alpha lads took off their blindfolds in the second half, bringing home the glory and winning 14-8 at the final whistle.

Cameron 'The Casual' Martin had this to say: "With Matty showing up 4mins late to our final after going too hard at the pub, I honestly thought there was no way back. Luckily, my left foot won us the game."

The Alpha boys go on to increase their 60-game unbeaten streak again this season. The question is, how long before they finally crack? Stay tuned...

Well done to ALPHA for winning the Autumn Monday Men's 5-a-side Division 1 League at the Albany Football Centre, unbeaten too!
