We are very pleased to announce that we have begun a new relationship with the Nepal Mountaineering Association Welfare Fund who will be the recipients of a regular donation from the profits of our annual lecture.

The NMA Welfare Fund provides financial support to the families of high altitude workers who have died while working in the mountains with a focus on funding the education of children from bereaved families.

RACE DAY 30 NOV
This is about 5k into the route, past the glacier boulders and getting into the runnable part. But it's still likely to be very cold on the section above Lobuche. Beautiful Pumori in the background, catching early sun.
Join us this November. EARLY BIRD prices until the end of June. Head to sherpaeverestmarathon.com for info, or just get in touch.

Day 18 - 4 Dec
A slightly flexible day in case of flight complications, but there’s plenty to do around Kathmandu. Durbar Square, Asan Tole, Patan, Thamel, just wandering around. Sleep, souvenirs, or sights. Before a celebration of the 2023 Sherpa Everest Marathon in the evening. 🇳🇵🛕💪👏

Day 17 - 3 Dec
Back to reality, the reality that is Kathmandu. The key thing is to get everyone back to the city but if we have the chance we’ll definitely get out and about. Perhaps Pashupati and Boudha (one of the most wonderful places on earth). 🇳🇵🙏🛫⛰️🛬

Day 14 - 30 Nov
RACE DAY. Here we go, 42k from Gorak Shep to Dingboche, Phortse, Thamo and then to the finish in Namche Bazar. 1000m D+, 2700m D-.
One of the highest and most stunning races that exists, following in the footsteps of the original 1987 version. Even the support team will have to cover 30k, but runners will be doing the full distance surrounded by some of the tallest peaks on our planet. Race and route info is on the website so take a look - it’s obviously tough but if you’re OK at downhill running on technical ground, and can get to the start line feeling human, it’s possible.🇳🇵🏔️📷🧘

Day 13 - 29 Nov
Relaxing before the big day, six months from now. Although for some, this will feel like the big day, just dealing with the altitude well above 5000m. Again, options to explore or just chill out. Pre-race briefings, kit checks, lots of photos. Today (29 May) is 70 years since the first ascent by Tenzing and Hillary and we aim to do things in the same spirit of teamwork and friendship.🇳🇵🇳🇿🏔️📷🧘

"Friends are as important as achievement"

70 years today since Tenzing and Hillary reached the highest point on our planet. We'd like to think that the Sherpa Everest Marathon has the same spirit. We'd love you to join us in November and become part of the team.

Day 11 - 27 Nov
In principle, a gentle day, 6 mths from today. Not too much climbing as we follow the race route up to Lobuche, along the balcony above Pheriche. But we’ll be close to 5000m and and it’s going to feel rough for some. We’ll pause on the way, especially at the small pass above Dughla, with memorials to those who didn’t make it home. People we may know and people we will never know. Already a dozen more deaths on the mountain this year. We need to respect this place.🇳🇵🪦🏔️

Day 10 - 26 Nov
Another acclimatisation pause. Realistically the only thing that helps is time, so snoozing, washing socks, eating cake would be a perfectly fine use of the day. But there are great things to do up the Imja Khola valley. Chhukhung (4700m) for lunch. For the super-keen, Chhukhung Ri (5500m). Or head up the ridge behind Dingboche and soak up the views. This is also where we need to start paying even closer attention to how everyone’s feeling. Things get serious. We will be in yak territory now and while they may feel OK, we may not.
