We recently expanded the size range on our Socket Bowie to 5", 7" and 9". We were expecting the 9" to be the most popular blade length, but the 7" is the most popular by far. What do you think it is about the 7" which appeals to so many people?

"I literally just opened up my new HSI.
I'm so impressed with this one mate.

Straight off the bat. Easily the best of its type i have handled. I have 3 Tora BSI a HK version and a couple of late 70's originals (and i had a KHHI version over 10 years ago) . Ergo's, weight and balance on this Kailash version are excellent. It's a superior tool.
The grind is as good as it gets with that beautiful convex. Handle size/proportions are perfect. No need to mod/tinker with this at all. The micarta has a wonderful texture. Fit n finish is bang on.

You guys knocked it out the park with this one.

I can say with absolute confidence that I believe you guys are making the best BSI type thats EVER been made. The utilitarian design and intended "philosophy of use" of this modest classic... combined with the design tweaking, superior materials and ex*****on of the Kailash team..its just brilliant.

Both sheaths, the Salyani and Western Leather are great. The craftsmanship on the Salyani is wonderful.

Hats off to you guys. Seriously. I have so much respect and reverence for what your doing."

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026 a huge chunk of glacier near the Nepal/Tibet border collapsed into the Trishuli river. This resulted in utterly catastrophic flash floods leaving at 547 people dead in Nepal and hundreds missing as of now. Entire communities have been swept away with ongoing emergency operations under threat of a second flood over the coming days. The death toll is expected to rise dramatically over the coming days and the true scope of the tragedy has not yet been fully established.

While our team members and their families are safe in Kathmandu we feel compelled to reach out to the international community to see if we can help gather much needed financial resources to help both with the immediate emergency response and the long and hard recovery.

As a result we are putting our using our skills to work and are forging a one-of-a-kind khukuri that we will raffle off to raise funds. Tickets are 20 usd each and can be purchased through the product page in our Traditional Section RIGHT NOW! Check the product page for full info on this very special project.

This will be the ONLY blade ever made to this pattern & it will not be open to custom variations via request. All 3 of our smiths will take part in its creation and it will bear all 3 of their marks. The exact materials & finish of this blade will be developed in tandem with community feedback through social media over coming weeks. Got ideas for material, engravings and finishing? Over the past 12 hours we have received many messages asking if our team or other Nepali makers are safe after these recent Flash Floods and landslides.

We would like to thank you very much for the concern- luckily our team and all of their relatives are safe and sound. These landslides and flash floodings have occurred at their worst in the far north of the country near the border with China so it's not likely that the team or immediate families of any Kathmandu or Dharan based khukuri house will be directly impacted. We can't comment on whether their broader family members are safe as the network of villages that smiths come from can be quite wide and this river is only one valley across from KTM. Furthermore the impacts on the lives of those further downstream is not yet clear- Gorkha for example is a place close to many khukuri enthusiasts hearts and is on high alert for rising waters. Our thoughts go out to all those who have lost their lives, lost loved ones or lost livelihoods in this catastrophe.

As it stands the cause of this tragedy is not fully clear but a landslide/glacier collapse into a river is strongly suspected, potentially triggered by an earthquake. While earthquakes are an unavoidable part of the tectonic geography of the region both Glacial Instability and Extreme Rainfall are being intensified through the effects of climate change. As the impacts of climate change deepen unfortunately we can only expect such tragedies to become more frequent- both in Nepal and around the world.

We have already received an outpouring of support regarding these events with people eager to know how to assist with the recovery. As it stands it is too early in the situation for us to have a good answer for you here, but we will have more information and direction for those interested as the situation develops.

A quick impressions review of an arringal from Dan Bergevin :)

"I think a lot of people probably think of extra long sirupate or chitlange blades as “Kailash swords” not realizing that there are other options. Options that would be highly suitable for fighting the armies of Alexander the Great.

The thing with your Smith Designs line is it’s almost like your makers decided that the overall lineup needed actual battlefield implements from the early Iron Age. Because why get a long Chitlange when you can get something designed to take out armored horses? When you need to channel an ancient barbarian warlord, you’re not using a measly, minuscule Fort Williams to do it.

Practically speaking, these swords are very much what you would see used as shock weapons in an early medieval society. Our modern world simply doesn’t have the feral capacity to trend something like these. They are too raw and powerful for our civilized blood."
