It’s been five days since the incredible experience at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in South Africa 🇿🇦 — a marathon that is on its journey to becoming the 8th Abbott World Marathon Major.
More than 16 Nepalese runners from across the globe came together to be part of this special event. Representing the UK were our coach Santosh Rai alongside Padam Kunwor, Prakash Gurung, Tilbikram Sambahamphe, Narayan Panta, Mohan Karki, Iron Lady Anju Sigdel, Dev Raj Pradhan, and Baljinder Singh.
From Nepal, we had Shambhu Dahal, Sushil Kumar Shrestha, Paritosh Gupta, Sanjeev Aryal, and Dharma Maharjan proudly representing our community.
A special mention to Mr. Khop Gurung from Serbia, who has now completed over 163 marathons in 79 countries.
David Mendies and Rajesh Shrestha from the USA also joined us to experience the brand-new course in the beautiful city of Cape Town.
Honestly, the best part was not only the marathon itself, but the unforgettable moments we shared together throughout the trip. The vibe, friendship, support, and laughter made this journey truly memorable.
The weather on race day was perfect. The course was quite technical in the first half with around 208m elevation gain, including a long uphill stretch around the 31km mark. But everyone smashed the course with impressive performances.
Huge congratulations to Dharma Maharjan, who finished 3rd in the Abbott World Championships 50–55 age category and 10th overall in his age group with an outstanding time of 2:41:25.
Paritosh Gupta also achieved an amazing personal best, improving by 15 minutes in only his third marathon.
After the race, we had a wonderful post-event gathering at Padam Kunwor’s place filled with delicious food, drinks, laughter, and celebration Huge thanks to everyone who travelled from Nepal, the UK, and the USA to support our athletes.
We also had fun marathon quiz games with prizes, and our coach shared updates about an exciting new project we are currently working on in Nepal 🇳🇵
Special thanks to Mrs. Michelle Kunwor for hosting such a beautiful gathering.
Our running community continues to grow across the world, and we will keep working hard to inspire and motivate more people towards health, wellness, and unity through running.
Running is not just about running — it changes lives and uplifts communities.
This is just the beginning.
