The Morecambe Bay sands are renowned for their quick sands and fast flowing tides. Crossing the sands has always been dangerous.

At the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII the Duchy of Lancaster acquired (amongst others) the Cartmel and Conishead Priories. With them went an obligation to appoint guides for travellers over the sands of Morecambe Bay.

Morecambe Bay forms one of the two largest areas of the intertidal estuarine flats in Britain and provides a vital link in the chain of west coast estuaries used by thousands of migrating birds for feeding and roosting.

Looking across the vast expanse of Morecambe Bay from one coastline to the other inspires and amazes us, and to have the opportunity to walk across the Bay gives us an exceptional opportunity to immerse ourselves in the wonder and dynamic environment of the bay.

Dark Peak Guides are based in the rugged and dramatic northern part of the Peak District National Park, known as the Dark Peak. This area, characterized by its wild moorlands, gritstone edges, and challenging terrain, offering incredible opportunities for walking, climbing, and navigating.

This passion for the outdoors has led to exploration of other areas of the United Kingdom and Abroad, and this has created Dark Peak Guides, who wish to share their experiences with you.
