What's your number?

I'm competitive as F. And it is a good thing. Usually.

If I wouldn't be as competitive as I am, I don't think I would be working in one of the best restaurants in the world.

It applies to sports as well. Nothing fires me up like good old fashioned competition set up. BUT..

When competition mindset reach the point that you are only on yourself, get jealous or can't control it, it can turn agains you.

I had to learn how to control it. Competitive person is not always the best team player. Working in hospitality is not individual sport, is a team sport.

If the team wins, everyone wins. Here is my favorite tricks:

💯 Workout. My workout time is my time. My worst critic is me and I try to beat up my personal best every single time. That's my time to shine.💫

💯 Meditation. It has been THE most efficient way to control my emotions.

💯 Stop comparing yourself to others. (It is harder than it sounds) That is going to drive you crazy. Focus on your performance first and if you reach the point when grass looks ALWAYS greener on the other side..Sit down and make a plan. It's your life.

💯 Talk to a friend. Or a supervisor. Or a coach. Your PT. Most of the cases when I'm about to lose my s**t, just saying it out loud makes me realize it is not end of the world. Ask yourself, is this going to kill me? If you don't have anyone to talk to, write it down on a journal or piece of paper.

💯 Preparation. Get to know you. If you take care of yourself, it is easier to handle conflicts and/or challenges. I follow my monthly circle and know my down time and when I'm boost up. Analyze your patterns and be your best best friend. Don't judge.

𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒋𝒐𝒃?

I have to admit, it's hard to ALWAYS be passioned about your job.

[There is days and there is bad days.]

But if it is not fulfilling anymore, why the f$%k you're still doing it?

To execute on high performance level you have to:

💫 Care about what you do.

💫 Find fulfillment, otherwise it is waste of your time.

💫 Measure your progress. Start by defining your goals.

🔊 Safe does not always equal happiness.
👉Do you have an opportunity to challenge yourself and grow at your workplace?

I have had many goals during my career and the latest one was to push myself to 3 michelin star level.

I'm so glad I have followed my dreams. Heck, I started my restaurant career by flipping burgers and making hot shots in ski resort 2004.

🔊 The world is your oyster, sometimes it's salty BUT it can be sweet as well. It is up to you.

.By willing to do I mean consistency.

To actually get what you want, most often it requires patient, new habits, routines, standards...Did you get bored already?😅

Most leaders (especially in restaurant industry) forgets that there is more in leadership than just building a team and running service.

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫, you have to learn to lead yourself first. Yep. That's tricky.

And it's hard to do it alone. Here is my top 3 tips for it:

1️⃣ Find yourself mentor or an accountability partner. Someone whom you have to call every single day or week. You talk about goals and progress.
👉 Make sure he/she is okay to give you some tough love when needed.

2️⃣ Hangout with other like-minded people. If you don't know anyone, go and find those people.
👉 If you're stuck at your current situation, it is not going to change if you're not changing things in your life.

3️⃣ Set some deadlines for your processes. Put it into your calendar. That's non-negotiable. (Example finishing management course or read book a month)
👉 Tell your friends and family that you're focusing on this change so they don't wonder why you are acting differently.

If you're anything like me ("not patient, I want it all now" type of a person) you'll find yourself facing resistance and obstacles all the time.

That's why I like to focus on being 1% better every day. That applies in every aspect of my life like:

💫 working out
💫 grounding/meditation
💫 emotion control
💫 time management
💫 nutrition

𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲?

Being a leader in restaurant is not always just sunshine and rainbows. I know.

If you feel that your team is losing momentum and you are hitting road bumps all the time PAUSE and look at the mirror for a second.

My advise to you is to focus on these 3 factors. Try it out for the next 14 days.

💫 Listen. Don't give orders/your opinions. Just listen.

💫 Plan and execute your briefings like there is no tomorrow. Make it extraordinary.

💫 Schedule development discussion with EVERYONE.

Be honest, when is the last time you did all these 3 things?

If you're worried about development discussion, don't worry. I got you covered. Hit me up with a message and I'll send you a cheat sheet/check list.

What is the difference between 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 and a 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘀?

But isn't that a same thing? No, I don't think so. Atleast for me.

The word leader comes from old english word lædere 'one who leads", agent noun from lædan 'to guide, bring forth"

The other hand word boss comes from Dutch word "baas" and means master.

I like what Amir Kalantri said:
"𝐀 𝐛𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫; 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞."

[Perspective]

👉 Boss drives people vs Leader coaches them

👉 Boss says "I" vs Leader says "we"

👉 Boss knows how it's done vs Leader show how it's done

👉 Boss say "go" when Leader say "Let's go"

🔊 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿?

It is end of the week, Saturday. For most of us is the last service of the week, before our weekend.

My go to (for years) has been little treats like candy or well thought briefing. Don't underestimate what your words can do or how can you inspire people. Be present and on purpose NOT on yourself.

I'm curious, how do you motivate your team for the Saturday push? LMK👇

𝗛𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹!

Have you ever thought about competing in your field of expertise?

𝗜𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁. 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘂𝗽!

I sure hell was nervous. I had no clue what was going to happen.

It was WAYY out of my comfort zone.

But still, I did it. I have competed in cocktails and waiter of the year comps.

And to be honest, IT WAS WORTH IT! It was FUN! I made such an amazing CONNECTIONS!

And I learned so much about myself plus I gain so much new knowledge.

STOP comparing yourself to others and talking down (yourself). Focus on your opportunities✌

Have you ever competed in any field?

𝗛𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹!

🔊 This is a friendly reminder that you can have it all. It just requires a little bit of work. No biggie.

If you're not satisfied where you are at right now, I recommend to have a look at your current habits.

🔊 Are all of your habits top gun habits?

[Here is 5 steps how to get started]

👉 Decide what you want. Write it down.

👉 Go through your normal day. What do you usually do? Who do you hang out with? What do you drink/listen/watch?

👉 What sucks energy out of you? Who drains your energy? Can you do anything about it?

👉 Picture that new version of yourself. What habits that higher version of you have? Write it down.

👉 To get something new you have to let go of something old. Start with baby steps..What can you stop doing today to clear space for new great things in your life?

Start today and you'll thank yourself 10 years from now.

Are you with me?

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹....𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸!

Anxiety hit me yesterday, without a warning. And no matter how much work you do with yourself it's going to come and go as we live in our day to day lives.

Luckily it only lasted about 20 minutes and one hug.

Where you are now mentally and physically is the end result of your past decisions. Yes. And it's not the decision you made yesterday, it's more like decision that you made a year ago.

𝗛𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹!! 𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼...

No..

We NEED to stop glamorizing overworking. Please. The absence of sleep, good diet, exercise, relaxation, and time with friends and family isn't something to be applauded. Too many people wear their burnout as a badge of honor and it needs to change.
[ / twitter]

🔊 For years now I have missed all kinds of family events. Birthdays/celebrations and just casual hangouts with frieds.

Heck, I barely have been taking care of myself. Is it really worth it?

The only thing that you cannot get back is time.

🔊 What are you planning of doing this weekend?

Drop a 🧡 if you liked this.

❤️ 😎

To be a leader in a restaurant is HUGE resposibility. I know.

And you can f$%k it up in sooo many ways. I know. BUT this is one of the biggest reason why people quit.

🔊 Lack of inspiration and support from your leader.

Motivation can take staff only to a certain point and drive is what we're looking for here.

As a leader your job is to inspire your team for every day high performance service and create the opportunity for them to stay inspired.

If your inspiration is lost, how do you think you can inspire others?

[What had worked for me]

✅ Find someone to talk to.

✅ Think what skillset you can aprove next. Take that course.

✅ Listen to your team. Schedule development discussion.

✅ Stop winging it. Learn time management skills.

✅ Own your mistakes. We all f$%k up sometimes. You are human the same way than the team member of yours.

✅ STOP complaining. Focus on opportunities and solutions.

🔊 What do you do to keep up your momentum up?
