What's your number?
I'm competitive as F. And it is a good thing. Usually.
If I wouldn't be as competitive as I am, I don't think I would be working in one of the best restaurants in the world.
It applies to sports as well. Nothing fires me up like good old fashioned competition set up. BUT..
When competition mindset reach the point that you are only on yourself, get jealous or can't control it, it can turn agains you.
I had to learn how to control it. Competitive person is not always the best team player. Working in hospitality is not individual sport, is a team sport.
If the team wins, everyone wins. Here is my favorite tricks:
๐ฏ Workout. My workout time is my time. My worst critic is me and I try to beat up my personal best every single time. That's my time to shine.๐ซ
๐ฏ Meditation. It has been THE most efficient way to control my emotions.
๐ฏ Stop comparing yourself to others. (It is harder than it sounds) That is going to drive you crazy. Focus on your performance first and if you reach the point when grass looks ALWAYS greener on the other side..Sit down and make a plan. It's your life.
๐ฏ Talk to a friend. Or a supervisor. Or a coach. Your PT. Most of the cases when I'm about to lose my s**t, just saying it out loud makes me realize it is not end of the world. Ask yourself, is this going to kill me? If you don't have anyone to talk to, write it down on a journal or piece of paper.
๐ฏ Preparation. Get to know you. If you take care of yourself, it is easier to handle conflicts and/or challenges. I follow my monthly circle and know my down time and when I'm boost up. Analyze your patterns and be your best best friend. Don't judge.
