Do you remember your first bark boat? Your first home-made bow and arrow? It is made to be used.

Or what about the first time you gutted a fish you had caught yourself? For a Norwegian, it is most likely that he or she would have used a Helle knife. Whereas many knife manufacturers today depend on automated production and large product lines, we depend on quality and production through craftsmanship. Since 1932, Helle knives represented the very highest traditions of quality in Norwegian craftsmanship. Despite its aestethic qualities, a Helle knife is not made to be an ornament.

What a day in Askvoll! We were honored to be part of the delegation that finally had the pleasure of an official visit from our Norwegian King Harald V to our municipality 🎉🫅

We also got the honorable assignment to make and present the official gift to the King. When we got the assignment, we knew it had to be a Special Dyre Vaa. This classic Helle knife was known as the King's knife in the 80s after it was used by then King Olav. It was an honor for MD Svein-Erik Helle to tell this story of Helle and the King's knife to the current King. We made a Special knife with a Royal, Blue Poplar handle and the King's sign engraved on the blade. 🤴🔪

While we were making the Special knife for the king, we also found it a good idea to make 499 more Dyre Vaas (without the King's sign) in different handle materials and make them available for you. So from tonight these will start popping up through our website and selected retailers, so keep your eyes open (and your email signed up to our newsletter) 🤞

As with all our limited editions there were only 1000 pieces made - never to be made again!

A special version of the old King's Knife Dyre Vaa is currently in the making in Holmedal. We are bringing this classic back in limited numbers for the visit of King Harald to our municipality Askvoll later this month 👑🎉🔪
