Adrienn Schmidt Moments of my long journey towards the “impossible”s. I refer to the achievements, as such, that I once considered impossible to accomplish.

What’s going to be the next one?

Whenever I support a race, I also ask myself: Could I do this?
Bike? I think I could manage. Run? Definitely.
But the 3800m swim in the ice-cold fjord? That terrified me. 🥶
This time, I tried it. And guess what? I stayed warm, and the brackish water was the calmest I’ve ever swum in.
So now I need to come up with new excuses not to sign up for Norseman 😅

We had perfect weather. The fjord was calm, the skies were kind. But then—rear wheel failure. 💥
Despite all the prep, the race turned into a DNF. That’s the reality of endurance sports. You plan for everything, and still, the unexpected shows up.
But the spirit? Unbroken. The team? Strong. The experience? Unforgettable.

Back at it with the white crew jacket! 🤍
This weekend I had the honor of supporting Nejlonman at the Zalaris Norseman Xtreme Triathlon World Championship. It was my second time crewing for her—first was ICON in 2023—and I was beyond excited to witness the legendary Norseman up close.
Being invited to the team is a privilege.🥰 Supporting means early mornings, long hours, and full focus. It’s a huge commitment… and still, sometimes things go sideways...

Ultra-Trail Hungary - The Lesson

What do you take away from running 111K in heat you weren’t acclimatized for?

You learn that perfection doesn’t exist in ultrarunning. You learn that stability matters—not just bursts of speed. You learn that dog poo bags can literally save you from overheating. 🤷‍♀️

And most importantly—you learn that if you want to run a steady performance on trails, you need to train on technical terrain. If you want to run ultras, you need to train ultras.

This was a day of imperfections, adjustments, survival tactics, and absolute magic.

Ultra-Trail Hungary - The Zombie Run

Two years ago, I fell apart after 92K. I had nothing left when the zombie run began—those last 20K were pure survival.

This year? No pain, no toenail disasters, no stomach issues. Just me, the trails, and the mission to finish strong, and preferably under 15 hours.

And—turns out—arguing with the gym staff over whether running on the stair machine with 10 kg extra was safe paid off. Saved 16 minutes compared to 2023 on the steep uphills!

Yet, as I hit 86K, things changed. Energy faded, pushing harder felt impossible. And suddenly, sub-15 hours slipped away.

Reality check: ultras never go exactly to plan. But sometimes, it’s about celebrating what didn’t go wrong rather than dwelling on what did.

This time, I kept moving. Steep climbs? Strong. Downhills? As a sloth, sometimes singing the Hungarian anthem in a daze.

Ultra-Trail Hungary - The Crew

Ultras aren’t solo missions—they’re team efforts. 💙

🏃‍♂️ My coach Gabi? A competent, problem-solving genius.
💦 My sister Ági? A guardian angel with sunscreen and snacks.

From ice packs stuffed into places I won’t mention to pep talks when I was unraveling—they made all the difference.

A massive thank you to everyone who cheered, followed, and supported me. You kept me going. You reminded me why I do this.

Ultra-Trail Hungary - The Struggle

This race didn’t start pretty. Heat. No rhythm. Negative thoughts creeping in. Then, just 90 minutes in—I crashed hard, bruising my knee and elbow. Not ideal.

But ultras aren’t about perfection. They’re about pushing forward, adjusting, finding ways to keep moving.

At 73K, seeing Gabi and Ági gave me new energy. Dog poo bags filled with ice tucked into my bra became my survival strategy (don’t question it—it worked 🤣).

And at 94K, frustration peaked. Chafing disaster. A meltdown. Gabi´s bodyglide sacrificed for the greater good.

Was it perfect? No. Was it unforgettable? Absolutely.
