We are "light loving" creatures. How different parts of the light spectrum interact with specific parts of our body is truly fascinating and amazing.

For example, this study looked at the interaction of curcumin and blue light and its effect on liver disease, hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Winter is coming! For many (including me 2 years ago) that means a drop in immune system, mood, energy levels and increase in anxiety and depressive symptoms.

I have found that three things have changed the my outcome from the "winter blues".

Activity
Light
Temperature

Red and infrared light are vital (as demonstrated the paper showing improvements from major depression after just one session of photobiomodulation). Combine that with daylight.

Activity - I walk every morning and train hard 3-4 times a week.

Temperature - Studies show decreased depressive symproms after sauna usage. I also use cold for the same positive effect.

Loose skin?

Sometimes known as skin laxity, loose skin can be annoying and although not dangerous or something to be concerned about, it can cause issues to self esteem and confidence.

There have been a few studies that looked at photobiomodulation and it's ability to reduce skin laxity, improve skin appearance, reduce scarring, improve collagen concentration, elastin and blood flow to the area.

How good does red light therapy make you feel?

In a word - amazing!!

I feel so energized and switched on. I generally feel like my body is functioning at a higher level!

Some things are subtle and others are not 😋.

My ankle is not so subtle - immediate pain relief and tingling due to some nitric oxide release, followed by increased range of movement and mobility.

Photobiomodulation is able to do so for so many because of the way specific wavelengths of light interact with our body. We wear clothes all the time and we deprive ourselves of this light, it’s time to remind yourself how good you can feel!
