Dutch Capitals Tour (DCT) 2020 English translation below
Beste fietsvrienden,
Na veel voorbereidingen om de Dutch Capitals Tour (DCT) 2020 te organiseren, staan we voor nog één probleem. Één van de fundamentele eigenschappen van de DCT is dat we plaatsen op de route regelen waar het mogelijk is om te slapen en een gratis maaltijd te krijgen. Zonder deze voorwaarde wil ik de DCT niet organiseren. Voor de eerste twee rustplaatsen (Vijlen en Zwolle) is alles voorbereid om de organisatie te starten. In het verleden waren we van harte welkom bij de fietsclub in Hoorn, maar vanwege de sluiting van de afsluitdijk voor fietsers moet ik een andere route kiezen en Hoorn is niet haalbaar voor deze rustplaats omdat Hoorn nu te dicht bij de finish is.
Dat brengt me bij het probleem waarmee we momenteel worden geconfronteerd. De omgeving van Lelystad / Almere ligt nu op de route waar we zo'n plek moeten vinden. Hoewel we nu al weken aan het werk zijn om deze plek te vinden, zijn we momenteel nog niet succesvol. Op dit moment proberen we contact op te nemen met mensen in die buurt om ons te helpen. Ik hoop voor het einde van deze maand een definitieve beslissing te nemen.
Aan het einde van deze maand krijg je de melding of DCT volgend jaar wordt georganiseerd. Afhankelijk van de beschikbaarheid van een plaats in Lelystad / Almere streven we naar een van de eerste twee weken van juli 2020 om onze rit te organiseren. In beide gevallen is de start op woensdag en de sluiting op zondagavond vóór middernacht.
Ik hoop aan het einde van de maand goed nieuws te hebben.

My dear cycle friends,
After a lot of preparations to organise the Dutch Capitals Tour (DCT) 2020 we are facing one more problem. One of the foundation properties of the DCT is that we arrange places on the route were a possibility is to sleep and to get a free meal. Without this condition I don’t want to organise the DCT. For the first two rest places (Vijlen and Zwolle) everything is prepared to start the organisation. In the past we were very welcome at the cycle club in Hoorn, but due to the closure of the “afsluitdijk” for cyclists I must choose another route and Hoorn is not feasible for this rest place because Hoorn is now to near by the finish.
That brings me to the problem we currently face. The environment of Lelystad/Almere is now on the part of the route where we should find such a place. Although we are working for weeks now to find ourselves this place, we are currently not successful yet. At this moment we are trying to contact people in that neighbourhood to give us a helping hand. I hope to have a final decision before the end of this month.
At the end of this month you’ll get the message if DCT will be organised next year. Depending on the availability of a place in Lelystad/Almere we are aiming for one of the first two weeks of July 2020 to organise our ride. In both cases the start will be on Wednesday and the closure at Sunday evening before midnight.

Naar aanleiding van de recente dodelijke ongevallen met wielrenners, schuiven vanavond Nynke de Jong en Tijs van den Brink aan bij Jinek om te vertellen wat zij doen om heelhuids door het verkeer te komen. NPO 1, 22.20 uur.

Goed dat het verhaal vanuit het perspectief van de wielrenner eens aan bod komt!

Mooie herinneringen met Frank Simons. Een randonneur pur sang.

De man deed mee aan de Transcontinental Race, die begint in België en eindigt in Griekenland. Een automobilist reed hem aan en reed door.

DCT, de langste toerfietstocht door Nederland, de ultieme uitdaging voor klimmers. Er zijn namelijk nauwelijks klimmetjes in het parcours opgenomen, hetgeen betekent dat de wind op de vlakke stukken en de lange dijken een belangrijke factor gaat worden. Geen afdalingen waar je even tot rust kan komen, gewoon doorgaan en constant kracht blijven leveren. Dit 1.425 kilometer lang en alles bij elkaar slechts 2.000 hoogtemeters, hetgeen nog voornamelijk in het zuiden van Nederland wordt bereikt in een klim naar de Vaalserberg (320 meter) en nog wat omliggende heuveltjes. Uiteraard zijn niet-klimmers ook welkom. :-)
DCT mag in maximaal 110 uur worden verreden. Onderweg doen we de 12 provinciehoofdsteden aan, de nationale hoofdstad en het hoogste en laagste punt van Nederland.

DCT, the longest bicycle tour through the Netherlands, the ultimate challenge for climbers. Indeed, there are hardly climbs included in the course, which means that the wind on the flat parts and the long dikes will be an important factor. No descents where you can take a rest, just go ahead and continue to deliver constant power. This trip is 1.425 kilometers long and all in all only 2,000 altimeters, which are mainly achieved in the south of the Netherlands in a climb to the Vaalserberg (320 m) and some surrounding hills. Naturally non-climbers are also welcome. :-)
DCT may be held in a maximum of 110 hours. Along the way we do in the 12 provincial capitals, the national capital and the highest and lowest point in the Netherlands.
