Excellent post Golf State of Mind. Mastering the game. On and off the course ⛳️
This was the answer Scottie Scheffler gave when asked about whether he predicted that he would be this successful a player (already) winning 4 times in the past 8 weeks, including his Masters win.
Of course, all players who reach the PGA Tour want to win majors and have a successful career (and believe that it’s possible), but this answer was probably surprising for some. Not thinking about winning tournaments and majors?
I think goals are great. You’ve got to have a plan. You already know you love doing what you are doing and you love the feeling of getting better, so you keep putting in the effort and see where it can go. So do we need to have goals around winning a certain number of tournaments or “majors” (whatever your major might be)?
Scottie Scheffler's philosophy is in line with Golf State of Mind - you plan the work, and work the plan IN THE PRESENT. You believe it’s possible that you can go all the way, but you don’t allow those thoughts to distract you from the “process” and being present to what you are doing NOW.
The future is an uncertain place full of variables. Those uncertainties can change how much we can give ourselves to our process and how accepting we can be of whatever happens.
Scottie said recently: ““I can prepare before a shot, and then that’s it. From there whatever happens, happens.”
This sums up his winning approach to golf - you do the work, let the results take care of themselves and accept them whatever they are.
