Kendo Kai Den Haag is a dojo in Den Haag and Voorburg for kendo, iaido and jodo We provide trainings in Iaido, Jodo and Kendo. Feel free to send us a message!

Kendo Kai Den Haag is the oldest kendo group in The Netherlands and was formalised in 1978. Also, we started with trainings in Kendo for children from ages 5 and up! For only €22,50 per month (up to 18 years old €11,25) you will get a membership which allows you to practice all three budo! All our sensei are committed to their Budo and have attained levels between 4rd dan and 7th dan. Our dojo is

On sunday may 17th the annual Dutch Championships for iaido & jodo were held in Nijmegen. Kendo Kai Den Haag was present and won many matches, to which we are very proud of.

The results were as following:

For iaido:

5th dan silver for Kenichi
4th dan gold for Noël
2nd dan bronze for Artur
1st dan gold for Antoni
1st dan bronze for Sander
Mudan gold for Juan

And for jodo:

5th dan gold for Piotr
3rd dan silver for Jolanda
1st dan silver for Jeppe
Mudan gold for Alexandra

Mudan tournament

On sunday 19th of april 2026 there was an opportunity for the not-yet-black-belt or mudan-grade of jodo & iaido practitioners to participate in the Mudan Tournament. Of which 7 participants of Kendo Kai Den Haag entered:

Duncan

With multiple competitions, there were 5 gold medals to earn. Excitingly we can proudly announce that Kendo Kai Den Haag took home all (!) 5 gold medals and on top of that a silver medal and the Fighting Spirit award. Congratulations Juan, Alexandra, Sander & Duncan!

The Mudan tournament also gave the opportunity for 3rd-dan grade and higher to act as jury and appoint points to the participants. Atleast 4 higher grade members of Kendo Kai Den Haag took the role as jury of which the highest ranking sensei on the event were Edwin sensei & Aad sensei for jodo & iaido respectively.

On saturday april 11th 2026, Kendo Kai Den Haag held their jodo kyu-grade exams and with great pleasure we can proudly announce that all participants passed!

Thank you to Edwin sensei, Aad sensei, Steven sensei for their guidance. Special thanks to Lorena & Jeppe for taking uchidachi roles during exams and Piotr for guiding the participants during the gradings.

2026 Amagai Kendo Seminar for Youth and Coaches

This year again we will host a special seminar led by Amagai Mizuki sensei, a renowned instructor from one of Japan’s top youth Kendo dojos.

Rather than focusing on winning or losing, the seminar emphasizes personal growth through Kendo, as well as the importance of teamwork and lasting friendships. While technical instruction will be provided, the main goal is to explore how we can help children enjoy Kendo and continue practicing it for many years to come.

Muso Shinden Ryu
Shoden koryu Seminar

On march 29th KKDH organized its first koryu seminar of 2026 for all MSR practitioners of the NKR lead by Aad van de Wijngaart sensei, 7th dan kyoshi. With 29 total participants from 8 different MSR dojo in the Netherlands, which is a 50% increase of participants from last years single koryu seminar in june!

Soon we will announce the follow-up Chuden Koryu Seminar, and hope to see both familiar and new MSR faces!

On saturday 28th of March, 2026 Kendo Kai Den Haag held exams for their kyu-grade candidates. Thanks to their dedication to practice and calmness during presentation all candidates passed!

Op 24 & 25 januari 2026 vond het Ishido Cup plaats in Helsdingen Sport en Cultuur te Vianen.

In de iaidocompetitie namen 9 KKDH-leden deel:

Juan & Fuad - mudan (eerste deelname)
Sander en Antoni - shodan
Artur - nidan
Lorena & Noël - sandan
Liston - yondan
Edwin - rokudan

Waarvan de volgende plaatsen werden behaald:

Juan - eerste plaats in mudan
Antoni - tweede plaats in shodan
Artur - derde in nidan
Lorena en Noël - derde in sandan
Fuad - mudan fighting spirit prijs

Op zondag vond de jodowedstrijd plaats. 5 KKDH-leden namen deel:

Alexandra - mudan (eerste deelname)
Jeppe - shodan
Jolanda - sandan
Piotr - godan

Er was ook een embu van de 12 seitei kata gedaan door de twee rokudan, onder wie Steven van KKDH.

Alexandra behaalde de eerste plaats, Jeppe de tweede en Jolanda de derde.

Aad en Edwin waren dit weekend ook aanwezig als docent, scheidsrechter en examinator.

Examens iaido
In december 2025 tijdens het ABKF winter seminar in Belgium is Kenichi godan geworden en op 24 januari 2026 tijdens de Ishido Cup zijn Lorena en Noël yondan geworden.

On January 24 & 25 Kendo Kai Den Haag was present at the annual Ishido Cup organized by the
A Dutch event named in honour of Ishido sensei, headmaster of the Muso Shinden Ryuha in Japan, and open to international budoka. Among the many international sensei both Aad sensei & Edwin sensei from Kendo Kai Den Haag taught the students during the seminar portions and acted as judges during the taikai for both iaido and jodo.

Competition was fierce, but great results were made nonetheless.

For iaido taikai:
Mudan - Juan (gold)
Shodan - Antoni (silver)
Nidan - Artur (bronze)
Sandan - Lorena (bronze)
Sandan - Noël (bronze)
Fighting spirit - Fuad

For jodo taikai:
Mudan - Alexandra (gold)
Shodan - Jeppe (silver)
Sandan - Jolanda (bronze)

Besides the seminar and taikai, there was also an opportunity to participate in exams led by Aad sensei among others. Both Lorena and Noël managed to pass their exam and advance to yondan grade.
Earlier at the ABKF in december 2025 Kenichi also managed to pass his godan exam.

Last Saturday (Jan 17), we kicked the day off with an inspiring training led by Castelli Sensei, together with Shin Nakada. We are grateful to have been a part of Castelli Sensei's 40 year jubilee project. Thank you for sharing this special milestone with us 🥂.

Also a big congratulations to Roelof, who successfully passed his 5th Dan. Ofcourse well deserved! 🔥 Which means we currently have three(!) Godan training regularly and putting their effort into the club to help us grow and blossom in our kendo development. Looking back to the years where we were just a small group of people practicing kendo... Something we never expected we would reach a few years later👏🏻.

We wrapped up the day with our annual potluck, celebrating the new year together. It’s amazing to see how much our club has grown and continues to grow. 🥂

Here’s to a strong year ahead, filled with learning, connection, and many great moments together.

During the holidays both jodoka and iaidoka of Kendo Kai Den Haag gathered together to celebrate a productive year. Seeing some go on their individual journey elsewhere in the world, but luckily also seeing new members join the path of martial arts.

We wish all budoka a healthy and productive year to come, and hope to see both familiar and new faces at any event or seminar in 2026.
