Every year, the city of Tilburg cleans the streets of over 3,500 broken and abandoned bikes. Enactus Tilburg University has developed and applied a new concept in which those bikes are recycled, repaired and offered to local students.. Through the Save A Bike project active students contribute to the local community of Tilburg in a social and sustainable way- to make our city cleaner, safer and ev
en more student-friendly. Save A Bike has four main pillars. Firstly, it satisfies the high demand for cheap and functioning bikes among higher education students. Regardless whether a student is Dutch, international or on exchange in Tilburg, they all need cheap means of transport. Secondly, abandoned bikes saved by the project do not end up in the landfills, which results in a cleaner environment. Reduced waste and green thinking show our responsibility for the planet. Thirdly, Save A Bike project integrates students with companies and institutions working together towards a shared goal. It shows that Tilburg is a really an active and open city. Finally, providing cheap bikes from a legal source will lower the incidence of bike theft. The expectation is that the demand for stolen bikes will decrease and your bike will be safer. Besides Enactus Tilburg University, this project is supported by MSN, La Poubelle and WonenBreburg.
