One of the very few pictures I took of you. Why would I be taking pictures of you? We went out for lunch, did some last minute shopping before your departure for the Badlands, had a coffee. We went on a ride. After that, we would text or call from time to time.
Why would I take pictures of you, on this beautiful sunny day in The Hague? We will see each other, so many more times. You will come to Europe, again and again. I would visit Kenya, because you told me I have to, because itโs so beautiful there.
It was so great to see you guiding the whole new generation of East African cyclists, to see them looking up to you - their father, big brother, mentor. You taught them so much. You taught me so much. On this one sunny day in The Hague. Your greatness, as well as your humbleness, were palpable. You had this whole calmness around you, this reassurance.
Now itโs all silent. Now we are broken. Itโs all so sudden, so surreal, so unfair.
I want to believe that you see us, that you take care of us, that you are never gonna leave your team. We will see you in the sunset, we will hear you in the wind. We will carry you forever, please keep carrying us.
