the 1st Urban Kiz dance school of the Netherlands. Kizomba Evolution was founded in 2015 by Donnovan. Donnovan as the founder of Kizomba Evolution was the first dancer and teacher in the Netherlands who started dancing and teaching this Urban Kiz style. Our goals at Kizomba Evolution is to teach our students how to have fun while giving them the techniques and skills to dance Kizomba Urban Kiz. We
also want to help expand and grow this scene by attracting more dancers who would like to learn and love this dance just as we do.. HOW THE NAME KIZOMBA EVOLUTION CAME ABOUT:
Donnovan started dancing Kizomba in 2013 when Kizomba started getting popular in The Netherlands. He use to go to all the parties at that time (2 a week)He also started with dancing Kizomba (traditional) with a chest to chest connection. One night Donnovan was wearing his favorite white shirt and when he got home it had a make up stain on it that could not be washed out, and he was mad about it. So starting that moment Donnovan started dancing but trying to keep the ladies at a distance. After that he started traveling to festivals in other countries and came to the conclusion that there was a style that was being danced with distance. So he felt more comfortable dancing this style in Holland. A lot of Kizomba (traditional) teachers use to shout at him while dancing, that what he was dancing was not Kizomba and was not how to be danced on Ghettozouk music. But he did not listen, because dancing that way brought him lots of pleasure and lots of fun for him to do. All of these changes and transformations have contributed to the emergence of the name Kizomba Evolution. And because Kizomba is still such a young dance it is still in the stage of evolving with new styles being created every year. HOW THE NAME URBAN KIZ CAME ABOUT:
Throughout the years, Kizomba has had a huge transformation, resulting in the development of a whole new genre called URBAN-KIZ. Not only the dance style but also the dancers, teachers and the music have contributed to this evolution. Many dancers and teachers have developed their own unique style, way of dancing and teaching . Because evolution is a part of life, and dance is a way of life, teachers at Kizomba Evolution constantly improve their technics, skills and style to keep moving forward. And because our teachers know the best way to becoming a much better dancer starts at the bottom, teaching our students the right way of dancing in the beginning will make sure they will have much more fun dancing when they get to an higher level or when dancing with an much better dance partner. Trough out the years our teachers have specialized themselves in the Urban Kiz techniques and the Urban Kiz foundation. Kizomba Evolution has its own style which is described as creative, innovative, dynamic and fun. During the classes the teachers try to convey their passion and creativity for Kizomba Urban Kiz (the game of leading and following with an unmistakable connection between partners and the playfulness with the music) to their students. URBAN-KIZ:
The name Urban-Kiz was made up by some of the best Kizomba and Urban-Kiz dancers and teachers to mark the separation between "Kizomba" the circular dance (known to many as traditional Kizomba) and "Urban-Kiz" the linear dance (also known as the French style or Kizomba Fusion)

Kizomba Evolution was founded in February of 2015 in Rotterdam with one goal in mind, to help new dancers find their passion for this dance and to help them find their way to becoming a much better dancer and have lots of fun while doing so. We started out with 2 levels and 14 students in Rotterdam, and within a year grew out to becoming one of the biggest Kizomba dance schools in The Netherlands with over 100 students, spread across 5 levels in 5 cities like: Utrecht, Amsterdam, Breda and Nijmegen. These days we only teach in Rotterdam and Nijmegen, with the prospects of Eindhoven in the near future. We were the first teachers in The Netherlands to teach Urban Kiz and who specialized in this style and the foundations. We teach our students our style and what we think the best way and what is necessary to dance Kizomba Urban Kiz. Our teacher have a high regard for good techniques and having fun during the classes. So our focus and priority is always on techniques and having fun while teaching our students how to dance. STYLES WE TEACH:
During a cycle (4 weeks) of our regular classes we teach our students lots of different styles, such as: Kizomba, Urban Kiz, Conpa and Douceur/Tarraxina. We do this not only to make our students aware of some of the styles that are being danced in this scene, but we also want to make our students all round dancers. That means we want our students to be able to dance a lot more styles, what will result in our students having many more dance partners than someone who dances only one style. We always start with teaching the students the basic steps in Kizomba and Urban Kiz. We show them the difference between these styles and why its important to learn both styles and what gains this has to offer them going forward. EVENTS:
In 2015 Kizomba Evolution also started organizing Events such as socials, weekend parties and mini festivals. Today Kizomba Evolution has created and started the concepts for 2 of the most popular and best Kizomba social dance parties in 2 of the biggest cities in the Netherlands, and was the inspiration to many more. The 1st concept created and started by Donnovan is organized every Tuesday in Rotterdam (also the 1st free kizomba social dance event with dj's in the Netherlands) formally known as Kizomba Evolution Dance Night, these days also known as Afterworkz. The 2nd concept created and started is organized every Monday in Amsterdam formally known as ( Hashtag Kizomba) these days known as Kizz MeetUp. In 2015 Kizomba Evolution also started organizing bigger weekend events, because they found the quality of most of the those events not to their standards. they knew they could do it better, and so started organizing themselves, where the focus of the events was always on the dancers.
