Today, something interesting happened. Nothing earth-shattering, but for me an incredible milestone.
I equalled my pr on the deadlift at 375 lbs/170 kg
"So what?" You might say. "My girlfriend eats that for breakfast without breaking a sweat!"
She probably does. And so do many people here, but that's not the message I wish to relay.
The first time I lifted this, I was 26. After that specific attempt (sumo-style with belt), I never even got close again.
What followed was a decade of low back pain in which getting out of bed was an ordeal sometimes.
This never stopped me from working out and searching for a solution, which I eventually found. Some years afterwards, I started deadlifts again.
Slowly at first, but when the pain did not return, I decided to try and ramp up the weight, resulting in said pr.
The message? Even when one grows older, progress is still possible. So to all of you middle-aged or even elderly folks; do not stop working out! You'll keep on reaping the benefits of it.
At 57, I lifted 170 again. Conventional, no belt.
And I'm not done yet.
