This lad walked into our gym as a 17-year-old; when I asked him what he wanted to achieve, he told me, ‘The very best I can be.’ Lots of people have said that to me before, but after two months of training, the excuses start coming. Not with this young man, though – for eight years he’s been at every training session and trains harder than anyone else. When he was 18, he took a job as a pizza delivery driver so he’d have money for petrol to get to training (45 minutes there and 46 minutes back). Over the past eight years, there have been ups and downs – injuries, disagreements. But he’s still here and working even harder than he already was. This man has it all: character, a strong mindset, the ability to cope with disappointment, a goal, a mission.
We’re nowhere near finished yet; the summit is high, but that’s where we’re headed.
