SUP 11-City Tour

Besides the ultimate challenge the SUP 11-City Tour is also an unique experience.

Athletes from all around the world take on the 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 as they paddle 220 kilometers (136 miles) through the 11 historical cities of beautiful Friesland (The Netherlands) in all kinds of weather conditions Athletes will experience the ultimate challenge as they paddle 220 kilometers (136 miles) in five days with weather conditions varying from windless, beautiful and sunny to cold, rain

y and stormy. Over 100 national and international paddlers get to know Friesland from the water. Open fields with windmills, cows, and sheep will present itself along the water ways exchanged by eleven historical cities built from 1700 onwards. Participants paddle the original waterways, where the ice skaters started conquering this historical tour 101 years ago on frozen waters. SUP 11-City Supporters come from all over the country and from all over the world to Friesland to encourage participants from bridge to bridge, and from town to town.

Starting a good habit is great, but keeping up with it regularly will show impact and potential

Inspiring Green moments by 11 images:

💚1: The boys from Plastic Tides came to Friesland in 2018 to initiate the first SUP11 City SUP Clean Up and to help inspire sustainability

💚2: Suppen met Janneke and Anne-Marie Reichman Totah were game to join Plastic Tides for the 220 km clean up.

💚3: Joanne Hamilton-Vale ended up joining the girls on day 2 as it felt more meaningful and fun than racing that year.

💚4: And in Gouda, earlier that summer in 2018, Janneke had created a new job in the Netherlands to keep the city clean by SUP.

💚5: In Summer 2019 SUPcleanup_nl was officially formed with Janneke and Aukje Postma NOW cleaning not only Gouda, but also area Heerenveen, Leeuwarden and soon 🥁🥁Meppel.

💚6: SUP Clean Up operates all year long; here a winter clean up 2025/2026 is happening

💚7: One of the most powerful impacts is happening here: educating the children, inspiring good habits for our future.

💚8: Back to 2019 where Janneke and Carla Schellart did the 2nd annual SUP 11 clean up where Hugo Vernhout joined them the last weekend.

💚9: Hugo was inspired by and started doing regular sup clean ups on his own besides continuing showing up for the SUP 11-City Tour ; keeping the balls he found

💚10: Over time a lot of balls were found.

💚11: And Mahalo Hugo for committing to again cleaning the SUP 11-City water ways one more time with us 🙌 🙏 which then also marks 10 years being part of the SUP 11-City Tour!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿 🌬️🌊

On both the first and second day of the SUP 11-City Tour, paddlers cross one of the most talked-about stretches of the route. Open water, changing conditions and nowhere to hide from the wind.

Some years it’s smooth. 🙏🏼
Some years it turns into a real battle. 💪🏼

Either way, this crossing is part of the experience. The kind of stretch people keep talking about long after the finish line.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱 🤔

At some locks and crossings, athletes have to carry their boards for a short stretch before getting back on the water.

In Friesland, we call this '𝗸𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗻'. 💪🏼

The word comes from the traditional Elfstedentocht ice skating tour. When the ice was too weak or broken, skaters had to walk on their skates to the next frozen section before continuing again.⛸️

One of many things that makes the SUP 11-City Tour unique.

We are sure stoked and grateful for all the years of SUPport from .nl having rad electro boats following the paddlers, offering some joy, blasting some music and serving as a rescue when needed.

Dear all,
It is with great sadness that we share this news with you. After a short illness, our volunteer Henk den Belder passed away last Sunday.

We will remember Henk as a kind, cheerful, and helpful man. We had the privilege of knowing him for many years, as he dedicated so much of his time as a volunteer.

At the non-stop event, he was always there with his Monique in Sloten en Dokkum, and during the five-day event you may also have seen him at various rest stops.

We will miss you, Henk. Rest in peace 🤍
