Na de mooie avonturen die we beleefd hebben en de vele positieve reacties die we hebben mogen ontvangen voor, tijdens en na de 2022 editie van de Dakar Clas
sic willen we nog één keer meedoen. Ons doel is wederom low budget aan de Dakar mee te doen met een legendarische auto uit de jaren zeventig die op het oog totaal ongeschikt lijkt voor een woestijnrally maar die het toch maar mooi gehaald heeft. We willen de auto beter voorbereiden en samen met wat we zelf geleerd hebben over navigatie hopen we op een iets beter resultaat dat de vorige keer (één na laatste)
De Dakar Classic is een vrij nieuwe categorie in de zwaarste woestijnrally ter wereld. De Classic categorie is voor rallyauto’s die ooit eerder hebben meegedaan aan de edities tot en met 1999, toen nog van Parijs naar Dakar, de hoofdstad van Senegal. Dat neemt niet weg dat het zware etappes zullen zijn voor onze tweewiel aangedreven auto, met veel hitte, stof, zand en stenen. Afgelopen jaar deden er bijna 150 auto's en vrachtwagens mee aan de Dakar Classic . Dit jaar is dat ook het maximale aantal. Als er meer inschrijvingen zijn zal een commissie een selectie gaan maken. Nieuw in 2023 is o.a. een H0 snelheidscategorie die speciaal voor tweewiel aangedreven en oude auto's met weinig vermogen is gecreëerd. Speciaal voor ons dus! Afgelopen jaar konden wij op veel trajecten de aangegeven gemiddelde snelheid vaak niet halen, vooral op stenige pistes. De Citroën CX heeft eind jaren zeventig/begin jaren tachtig aan diverse rally's deelgenomen, waaronder de Parijs Dakar in 1981, toen o.a. bestuurd door formule 1 coureur Jacky Ickx. In die tijd was het vooral een uitstekende rally auto voor op de weg maar werden ook heel goede resultaten gehaald in het terrein. Voordeel in het terrein is de hydropneumatische vering waarmee de hoogte is in te stellen en waarmee oneffenheden worden opgevangen en de wielen onder vrijwel alle omstandigheden contact houden met de ondergrond. Onze zelfgebouwde replica van een rally CX, een origineel Nederlandse auto uit 1985 hebben we al vele jaren in ons bezit en heeft zich eerder tijdens een amateurrally (www.budapestbamako.org) in Afrika al bewezen. Na de rally zijn we in een aantal etappes doorgereden naar Mali, Ivoorkust, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinee Conakry en vervolgens via Senegal en de Sahara weer naar huis in Nederland. After the great adventures we have experienced and the many positive reactions we have received before, during and after the 2022 edition of the Dakar Classic, we want to participate one more time. Our goal is once again to participate in the Dakar on a low budget with a legendary car from the seventies that at first glance seems totally unsuitable for a desert rally, but which made it through nicely. We want to prepare the car better and together with what we have learned about navigation ourselves, we hope for a slightly better result than last time (second to last)
The Dakar Classic is a fairly new category in the toughest desert rally in the world. The Classic category is for rally cars that have previously competed in the editions up to and including 1999, then from Paris to Dakar, the capital of Senegal. This is not about speed but about regularity and navigation. Nevertheless, it will be tough stages for our two-wheel drive car, with a lot of heat, dust, sand and stones. Last year, nearly 150 cars and trucks took part in the Dakar Classic. This year is also the maximum number. If there are more registrations, a committee will make a selection. New for 2023 is, among other things, an H0 speed category that has been created especially for two-wheel drive and old cars with little power. So special for us! Last year we were often unable to achieve the indicated average speed on many routes, especially on stony slopes. The Citroën CX took part in various rallies in the late 1970s/early 1980s, including the Paris Dakar in 1981, when driven by Formula 1 driver Jacky Ickx, among others. At that time it was mainly an excellent rally car for the road but very good results were also achieved in the off-road. The advantage in the terrain is the hydropneumatic suspension with which the height can be adjusted and with which unevenness is absorbed and the wheels maintain contact with the ground under almost all conditions. We have owned our self-built replica of a rally CX, an original Dutch car from 1985 for many years and has already proven itself during an amateur rally (www.budapestbamako.org) in Africa. After the rally we drove in a number of stages to Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry and then back home to the Netherlands via Senegal and the Sahara.
