sometimes Peter Thommen gets lucky enough to build a unicorn, in this case the LWG (light wind giant) for Milan Štroner from CZ who refuses to give in to his peers' winging and kiting, but firmly holds the windsurf flag high on his low-wind hometown lake. - just for this alone we take a bow and give you a big salute Milan!

Milan's LWG measures 272 x 92cm and boasts our early planing 'GLEITWUNDER CONCEPT' bottom shape.

the "Milan Monster" has a OFO of 65cm so we needed a 'BS' tail to bull-sh*t the water a bit. Peter's signature step-deck helps Milan to keep in control and stay in close contact with the water, not alienating from the magic H2O we love to glide on.

I'm sure that Milan Štroner will report back with his findings after using it some more.

not just one FAST-R²....

but the duo-set for Jean-Paul Krijgsman who said goodbye to the full-on slalom thing and decided to take going fast way more comfortable.

JPK decided on Peter Thommen built FAST-R² 107 and 137, as the ultimate allround combo, now ranging from 8.5 down to 5.5 with only 2 boards where he used to have 4 in his trailer.

With the FAST-R², Thommen is launching a new board for the slalom sector. The shape comes with a longer outline, double concaves and moderate step rails.

THOMMEN FAST-R² 154 - Bert DP.'s first impressions from the water:

3 sessions in 18–23 knots at the Brouwersdam (seaside), ranging from fairly flat water to heavy chop, and further out to sea, swells up to 1 meter. Sail: Severne Turbo 8.1; Fin: Select Superfast M88 41 cm. Rider weight: 115 kg.

A very easy-to-sail freerace board that goes fast effortlessly. It planes with the slightest pressure from your front foot. It never becomes difficult to handle when overpowered. You fly over the chop or slice through it with barely any loss of speed—likely thanks to the double-concave-to-V bottom shape. Gybing happens on autopilot; it is very forgiving and capable of completing turns that would be impossible on a slalom board.
This is where the magic of Peter Thommen’s (step-deck) rail design really shines, because you naturally forget just how much volume is beneath your feet.

Moreover, I suspect this board has a very wide wind range, depending on the fin used; the board's (extended) length and the mast track position allow for this versatility.

In short, this board makes me a much better windsurfer.
I was already a fan because the Ride 125 LTD gives me the same feeling: windsurfing isn't actually that complex when your board works for you, rather than the other way around.
The Fast R2 has what I felt was slightly lacking in the Ride. This is a FAST board that delivers the sensations of a true slalom board without the drawbacks. You don't need to be a pro to get the best out of it. Thanks to its volume, it also allows for effective upwind sailing; I can actually tack quite smoothly on it. So, it is very versatile and practical.

Does this board have any downsides, then? Yes, it certainly does! My three 2012 Elix slalom boards (L & M) are now redundant...
And I’m curious about the 117, which would serve as my high-wind slalom/speed board - replacing that Elix S - so let's wait and see what this autumn brings!

FAST-R² - going fast comfortably

one of our first SEMI-CUSTOM boards of this new (but pretty classic) concept just hit the stonero shop in Thessaloniki - listen to our friend TB's being stoked bout the all new THOMMEN FAST-R² 134 which soon will hit the Thessaloniki waters. TB is a good friend of the house of Thommen's and has been plugging the idea to us of getting back into the 'free-slalom' thing - seems love at first sight this morning, now let's wait for the Big Z to give it a go.

WINDSURFING 3.0

happy owner Herman Spannenberg about his new windsurfing kit:

"I finally decided to invest in a new windsurfing setup this past week. The Hifly brand no longer exists, but my trusted surf shop is still around.
I had long admired the surfboard, pecifically the "Gleitwunder" (planing marvel), the Glide265 of 165L, which offers plenty of buoyancy for the "mature" man 😎.

There was a lovely breeze late this afternoon.

The sail’s colors are mesmerizingly beautiful, and it’s wonderfully light to handle. Even rigging the sail is child's play, requiring no massive physical effort. Clearly, innovation marches on. smiles for miles for Dirk Cornelis and his Junior, who drove up all the way from Belgium to collect his first REAL DEAL Peter Thommen shaped GLIDE265LTD, the original Glidewonder Concept Shape. Dirk started windsurfing on a real Windsurfer with teak boom, from there on he went thru all the phases to fall in and out of love with the Mother of all Funsports now aiming to get back into shape gliding the Glide and pass on his passion to his son. it was a real pleasure meeting you Dirk, wish you many happy years sailing your new stick.
