MAJOR WIN TODAY - MY APP IS WORKING !

after days and days and honestly weeks of high focus, yelling at and fighting with at Claude, crying out of desperation, moonwalking, sheer determination to finish what I started, eat poorly, being grumpy at others for disrupting my focus and pushing everyone away,

it works! The app does what I want it to do. WHOOHOOO I'm so happy !!πŸ™ƒπŸ™‚πŸ™ƒπŸ˜πŸ˜œπŸ€ͺ

If you ever get the chance to do this...

Due to vacation a colleague of mine asked if I could fill in as radio-dj. 2 hour show, mostly scripted for local news. Several Mondays, 1-3pm.

That is so awesome to do, the buttons and slides and the fact that people are listening but you can't see them, so cool.

Not everything went well, I learned a lot. My top 5 to make it less scary:

1. Trust yourself that you know what to say when things go wrong. You can train that, by the way.
2. Since you can't see your audience, your focus shifts to giving and having fun yourself.
3. You can totally dance, goof out, sing, just turn the microphone off (*ahum*) πŸ˜‡ πŸ˜‚
4. Just have a one-way conversation. You can train that too.
5. Don't put up a voice, just be you. No one wants to listen to a fake person.

and you'll be fine

So excited.

For a month I'm building an app, for singers who have a performance coming up but normally nerves take over.

Working title is Stage Fright Emergency Kit. It will help you to calm the nerves down so that you can go out there and rock it πŸ™‚

Phase 1+2 is now done (out of 4). Time selection, Intensity and Pattern Recognition. Loooots of testing πŸ™‚

The face that I can take my knowledge and put it in a piece of software. Amazing. Long live AI πŸ’ž

JUST ME - RAW EXPRESSIONS

Staying quiet is safe, isn't it.

Quiet gets no one upset. Quiet keeps you predictable. Quiet keeps you in the box people expect you to stay in.

So you stay quiet. About what you believe. About what you feel. About who you actually are.

But the world is full of raw expression these days. People are speaking up loudly for what they believe in. And the world reacts just as loud.

The first time you speak your mind openly, people get shocked. They are not used to it, they are used to the quiet version of you.

But is that it? Living a life you know doesn't fit you, just to stay predictable to everyone else?

We are born to make a ripple. I was just reminded of that when I saw Bladerunner 2049 again. Just a ripple. And the result of that ripple will be someone else who makes a ripple. We all have our part in that.

You're not born to stay in fear. You know that. You feel that.

If your passion leads you to singing, then your voice is meant to be heard by someone. If your desire to help others leads you to presenting on stages, then your message is waiting to be heard by people who need it.

It's scary sometimes, being heard. I know. But it's the only way to do what you are born to do: make a ripple.

If this post is landing, let's chat.

You caught me, I haven't been on here in a while.

So here's what's been happening. Imagine you have a performance in a week. You're fine. A few days before, you rehearse and rehearse and rehearse. One day before, you can't sleep. One hour before, your body goes berserk. Shaking, mind blank, shoulders tight, head pounding, and basically, you want to run.

And that little voice starts. Am I even ready??

You know, it's not about being ready. Because you are. You went through the material again and again, you know it.

Your body's doing this for something else.

I've been building something for exactly that moment. More soon.

Everything changed when I stepped into my identity as a singer.

I wanted so bad to be taken seriously as a singer.

"You sing? You're in a choir?". Sigh.

Singing in the Netherlands is considered a hobby, unless you're a Known Dutchie. Imagine the frowns when I say "I'm a Singer".

Because I know it makes me walk up straight. It makes me proud. It makes me smile when the songs touch others. It makes me alive. It belongs with me like my long hair. I know I'm good. At least above average. I worked hard for that. WHY NOT call myself a singer?

"But you didn't do conservatorium". Correct. But I have paid performances every week now. Do you? How many of you do other work now, instead of performing?
And are we simply gonna skip the weekly private singing lessons for over a decade and a half?

Sometimes the blindfolds of others get to me. And then I shrug

and get in my car on the way to do another show. πŸ™‚

I love identity. See less

JUST ME - Recovery

Last Tuesday I gave a new masterclass on The Split.
You know what I mean. You're fine rehearsing your speech or song at home, but the moment there's an audience, that fine-ness is gone.

And when I do something intensive like giving a masterclass, I need to calm down afterwards. And I didn't. I had things to do, tasks to finish before midnight and oh yes the replay upload, blah blah blah.

No wonder that the day after, my energy was on the low side. I had not done the same thing I taught in the masterclass: recovery. Critical for your nervous system to come back to the safety baseline.

I went to the gym and worked it all out of me, then took a long hot shower and had a cup of tea enjoying the view. That's how I do it.

What's your way to recover from something intensive?
