Egg belts are in constant use, day after day. Regular maintenance helps safeguard egg quality, reduce the risk of unexpected downtime and extend the lifespan of the collection system.

Include these key checks in your maintenance routine:
✅ Remove dirt, feathers and broken egg residue
✅ Make sure the belt runs centrally and tracks correctly
✅ Check the tension: neither too loose nor too tight
✅ Inspect rollers, guides, connections and transfer points
✅ Watch for fraying, cracks, stiffness, stretching or recurring slipping
✅ Investigate any unexplained rise in cracked eggs

There is no standard replacement interval that applies to every poultry house. The lifespan of an egg belt depends on factors such as operating hours, belt type, house conditions, cleaning routines and system setup.

The best approach is to inspect belts regularly and replace them when signs of wear begin to affect hygiene, tracking, reliability or careful egg handling, before an unexpected failure disrupts egg collection.

A little preventive maintenance today can help prevent egg losses and unplanned repairs tomorrow.

For Giuseppe Bignotti from Fondo Perla, a strong start in rearing is essential. With rearing and egg production on different locations, the birds need to enter the aviary house with confidence.

That means chickens do not see less colour than we do. They see the world differently.
For poultry professionals, that is more than a fun fact. It is a reminder that lighting, contrast and house design can influence how birds experience their environment.

During warm summer days, birds need reliable access to drinking water. As water demand increases, it is important to check that the ni**le drinking lines remain properly filled throughout the entire house.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤:
✅ At the front of the house, check the pressure regulator and make sure the water level is set at the correct height.
✅ At the rear of the house, check the water level at the end-of-line breather.
✅ Walk through the house and inspect the drinking lines for any irregularities or signs of an uneven water supply.

Adjust the pressure regulator when needed, following the guidelines for your drinking water system. Checking both ends of the line helps ensure that water remains available throughout the ni**le line.
