J U S T - S E E

The views, the sights to see, picture it, the beauty, the feels... We get out there to explore, to see her, to find something, solutions, peace, sometimes salvation and liberty.

But there's more than meets the eye. Although she doesn't have a voice like us, mother earth speaks. We've forgotten how to listen. We only look at the picture.

In this picture you can see the humidity is high, but the clouds are hanging rather low and they are flattend. They are formed in one direction... It's windy up there! So it'll probably be a dry night, but a cold one.
And when it's windy up there it means other weather is comming in. If it was calm before, prepare for bad weather, and vice versa.

A trained nose can also smell if it is going to rain, and when you listen closely to the forest, the birds will tell you a change is coming aswell. Larger animals will also show different behavior.

So if you are outthere and about to stay the night, or nights. Don't just look, SEE. Perceive. Feel what she tells, the information gives you the ability to prepare for what's coming.

Kind of the same as your body and mind... The salvation you seek is hidden inside yourself. You need to stop looking, and start seeing.

"The beach is, that way."

On the final day of our last trip the participants had to navigate their way back to the end point. A route totalling around 5 clicks, without actual skills and knowledge of navigation. Ah yeah, and without a map.

Problems? No, solutions.

Each of em got 30 minutes to look at our map and draw a part of the route. Because they were told the BASICS of a route sketch and were given a compass, these guys managed themselves just fine.

The moment where this picture is taken we asked them to point in the direction of the goal, the end point.

They knew where the actual north was because of the compass, and could orientate their self-made maps. Therefore the assignment was rather simple.

Would these guys have found their goal without a compass? Yes, they would've just needed a little extra knowledge about finding north, without a compass.

Basics.

No problems.

Only solutions.

J Ä Ä K Ä R I - L

We've been walkin around whit a lot of different backpacks. Eberlestock, Crossfire, Berghaus, Lowe, Camelbak, the North Face etc. Two years ago we were introduced to and started using the Jääkäri range. We became absolutely stoked about this brand.

Simplicity, expendable, durable and functional are the first properties that come to mind. We will be reviewing these in the near future.

Great pack for starters and experienced peeps.

Want one? Questions about it? Hit us a DM, and we'll hook you up!

T H I N K

We get a lot of questions on how to travel as light as possible. There are many solutions for this problem, but the best advice we can give is to think.

Let's discuss the amount of water for instance.

The average person should drink 2 litres of water every day. That's 6 litres (thus 6 kg) of water for a three day hike. Depending on the sort of meals you are taking, you'll have to add extra.

- What are the weather conditions?
- What will be the intensity of your activities?
- How are your physical capabilities?
- Are you someone that sweats easily?
- Do you like to drink coffee or tea?

These questions are just to break down how much water you'll NEED. That information is crucial for your decisionmaking.
But it doesn't mean that's also the amount you'll have to carry.

- Is it possible in the place where I'm going, to gather fresh water? (In almost every outdoor occasion: yes, you can)

You can use water purification drops/tabs or cook it 10 minutes prior to consumption. There are more options for purification, think about what suits you best.

This way you can downscale your approx 8 litres of water to 2 or 3.

So before packing, THINK!

M A D E - I N - 4 8 H

The assignment was simple:
Get to the river Rein without getting caught within 48 hours, as a group.

Things got done.
Toes and fingers became cold.
Focus was lost.
Solutions found.
Tears turned into ice cubes.
Distance was bridged.
People became friends.
Memories were made.
Adventures survived.

In 48 challenging hours, 55+ km, give or take 5 km climbing and descending, mud, snow, hail, temperatures down to -5 degrees °C, and the constant pressure of being hunted.

Tired, cold, blistered feet, sore backs, rumbling stomachs and some hallucinating minds.

All worth it!!
A great experience with an exceptional group of peeps.

'In the right place, at the right time'.

Counts for everything if you wish to be successful. Sometimes the window in time and space is bigger, thus success may be easier. When the window is small, like in this picture, when photographing sparks, your timing has to be spot on. A tenth of a second too soon or late will result in failure.

Be aware though, when you have a lot of time, you may get distracted. And the opportunity will just pass without you noticing.

So, timing, spacing, situational awareness and the understanding of what you must do.

When
Where
What
How

That's all you need to succeed. The 'why' is your own perception of the importance of succeeding.

Be safe! Stay focused and: keep getting !

H A P P Y - F A C E

Got this pic from one of our family participants.

During a short break, long enough to get the stove fired-up and brew some well earned coffee.

Happy Stove

In short:

Very versatile and easy little thing.

PROS
- Lightweight and small packing
- Easy to setup
- Time efficient
- Easy to maintain
- No gas bottles needed
- Very good, low budget option

CONS
- Dry tinder needed
- Basic firemaking skill required
- Takes a bit longer then a Jetboil

Again, with a some knowledge and techniques you'll see that low budget isn't so much needed, but more fun as well.

Medisch gezien?

Wij zijn wel benieuwd! Let us know.

M U L T I - P U R P O S E

When packing we always try to find 'multipurpose' stuff to take. This is a weight and space saver.

In this picture you see a simple can of frankfurters. This is a perfect example of a multipurpose item:

- you can re-use it for boiling water or cooking food
- the lid can be used as knife
- the lid opener can be tweaked into a fishing hook
- the paper can be used as kindle
- use the metal to make sharp points for a spear or bow and arrows

-Can- you name any other ways to put it into (re)use? Please share the knowledge!

Creativitity is one of the most important things in life, or staying alive in a survival situation.

With little knowledge and creativity you'll have to take more stuff. With more knowledge and creativity you can choose between luxury and lightweight wandering.

Engorge yourself with knowledge to keep your options open! We are happy to give you little kickstart in our trips. Remember: creativity is key and knowledge is power.

L I G H T W E I G H T

Travel light, less weight, less volume, ultralight etc. Besides the another hype in the outdoor scene created by companies and manufacturers. People think they need it all. Can't blame em, marketing adds are getting better every day. They make you think you need it, and therefor you need to spend roughly 300 euro's on a ultralight tarp, which is rather small and will rip easily (for instance).
So, here are a few tips for the peeps that don't want to lose all of their money on so called 'needed' gear, and save it for the stuff that you are willing to spend it on.

What you really need is 3 things:

1.
To think about options that will give atributes double functions. A tarp can be used as poncho, raincover for the backpack, to carry camouflage or water, to make a stretcher for carrying wounded, to carry litter in for disposal somewhere else. You can use the pan to cook, purify water, make noise, use the lid to cut your food, keep prepped food on, store stuff in and, so, on. That way you don't need a cutting board (I am serious, the sell those), plate, whistle, extra bottle, bag, rain cover... this saves weight plus it saves space.

2.
Train yourself to only take that what you need. Besides the creativity of double functions, luxery is a common problem. Maybe 4 pairs of socks or un**es for a three day trip is a bit much. A sleeping mat isn't always necessary, the use of natural materials has the real impact of reducing packing weight and space.

3.
Maybe you shouldn't cry about the stuff being heavy and train a bit more.

Speaking of which!
The next trip at the end of October is 50% sold out! This will be a great training for starters. If you wish to join us check out the website.

guys! See you soon.

S L E E P Y - T I M E S

Lately we rather dangle in our hammocks then sleep on the ground.

Both have their pros and cons.

Main concern is the ability to get out quick when needed. Sleeping on the forest floor makes it easier to react on wildlife/deadfall etc. Thus safety.

But on the plus side you have: less packing space and weight, a lot of comfort and you don't need the floor to be flat. A cliff is no problem, as long as there's suspensionpoints.

That's why we always assess the surroundings on safety. Do we have deadfall, have we encounterd wildlife tracks or droppings. Do we need to set up a perimeterwire or is a campfire enough?

We will teach you all you need to know about setting up camp and process you trough the right decision making.

Comfy is nice, but when the safety is off, you will find yourselves in a s**tstorm when it goes wrong. Mother nature is relentless, she will point out your mistakes.

Join us and learn 😉

T H E - B R O ' S

Last trip, in Austria. Kinda like 4 brothers, exept one is from another mom. They know eachother through and through...

What they didn't know is that each one of them had answers for the other bout some deep stuff. It's funny how you can be so close, even going through the same s**t and end up handling it your own way. Having answers in your inner circle which you're around every day.

We all act the way we do because of things that happened, we've been through, we've seen or witnessed. Morals. They create us, make us who we are. But the saying 'lest we forget' isn't there for no reason.

Sometimes, we forget why we do certain things, react or act in specific situations and even feel what we feel. They just become principles. Traditions.

So when your answer to a question is: out of principle, or, I don't know why, I just do it like that: try and figure it out (again).

Is this still you? Crack on.
Having doubts? Time for some thinking.

Cuz, it's not if you're willing to change, you will change. It's about you, willing to accept that.
