👋 Hi I am Daan and I am a SUP racer
Here are some insights on how my winter training looks like. 👇
I always get excited for all the other sports, like surf, swim, run and bike for example, I can put my time and energy into. Surfing in particular feels more like playing than training, it is a great off-season activity. At the same time it usually ends up being a two hour interval session.😅
🙌Next to surfing, I will focus on running and strength training, just because I enjoy both and like to see what I can achieve before the build-up for the 2023 SUP season starts again. Beside having fun in training I also set small goals to keep the focus.
I often see that athletes completely let go of their goals during the off-season while for me it works much better to have small goals to aim for. Next to that, it is so important to keep a little bit of intensity in your off-season training to maintain your fitness. Otherwise starting back up at the beginning of the season will be very hard.🔨
However, keeping the motivation when the temperature drops is sometimes hard. In the past years I learned how important some sunshine or additional vitamin D is. Take every opportunity to go outside and get used to the colder temperatures, then it's much easier to make it through the winter!
🙌Oh and don't forget to make some extra time for social activities, leaving a bit more time in your schedule to see friends can give a lot of extra energy too!
