European Sport for All Games 2026: Een onvergetelijke afsluiting in Limerick
En daarmee zit ons avontuur op de European Sport for All Games 2026 erop!
De laatste dag stond nog één keer in het teken van het promoten van de sjoelsport. Ditmaal waren we twee uur lang aanwezig op de University of Limerick, waar bezoekers opnieuw kennis konden maken met het sjoelen. En net als de afgelopen dagen gold ook hier: veel belangstelling, veel enthousiaste reacties en een voortdurende stroom van mensen die het sjoelen wilden uitproberen.
Het blijft fantastisch om steeds weer terug te horen hoe leuk mensen het sjoelen vinden. Nog mooier was de reactie van de organisatie zelf. Zij gaven aan dat het sjoelen veel populairder bleek dan zij vooraf hadden verwacht. Gedurende het hele evenement was er vrijwel continu belangstelling bij onze sjoelbakken en wisten bezoekers ons goed te vinden.
Wat ons daarbij vooral opviel, was het publiek dat we bereikten. Veel kinderen, tieners, jongvolwassenen en ouders maakten kennis met het sjoelen. Juist die doelgroep willen we ook in Nederland graag aanspreken. Het is mooi om te zien dat onze sport ook buiten Nederland zo toegankelijk blijkt te zijn en mensen direct enthousiast weet te maken.
De dag werd afgesloten met de officiële slotceremonie in The Milk Market in het centrum van Limerick. Een prachtige locatie om samen met alle andere delegaties terug te kijken op een bijzondere week vol sport, cultuur, ontmoetingen en nieuwe ervaringen.
Als Algemene Nederlandse Sjoelbond hebben we deze uitnodiging vanaf het eerste moment omarmd. Eerlijk gezegd wisten we vooraf niet precies wat we ervan moesten verwachten en welke impact het zou hebben. Inmiddels kunnen we zeggen dat dit evenement onze verwachtingen ruimschoots heeft overtroffen.
Deze week heeft laten zien dat sjoelen ook buiten Nederland een toekomst heeft. De enorme belangstelling, de enthousiaste reacties, de nieuwe contacten en de interesse om verder te bouwen aan de sport maken duidelijk dat er kansen liggen om het sjoelen internationaal verder te ontwikkelen. Daar gaan we de komende periode dan ook vol energie mee aan de slag. Het laat daarbij zien dat het een sport is voor iedereen!
De European Sport for All Games 2026 smaken absoluut naar meer. Misschien zien we elkaar terug tijdens de TAFISA World Sport for All Games 2028 of de volgende European Sport for All Games in 2030. Met de ervaringen die we deze week hebben opgedaan, hebben we in ieder geval volop ideeën om ons bij een volgende internationale deelname nóg beter voor te bereiden.
Tot slot willen wij een speciaal woord van dank uitspreken aan Jacqueline Kronenburg (TAFISA ) voor de uitnodiging en het vertrouwen om Nederland en de sjoelsport te vertegenwoordigen tijdens dit prachtige evenement.
Daarnaast bedanken wij de organisatie van de European Sport For All Games 2026 - Limerick Ireland voor alle ondersteuning, gastvrijheid, faciliteiten en de uitstekende organisatie. Dankzij jullie inzet is dit voor de Nederlandse delegatie een onvergetelijke ervaring geworden.

European Sport for All Games 2026: An Unforgettable Finale in Limerick
And with that, our adventure at the European Sport for All Games 2026 has come to an end!
The final day was once again dedicated to promoting the sport of Dutch Shuffleboard (Sjoelen). This time, we spent two hours at the University of Limerick, where visitors had another opportunity to discover and experience our sport. Just like during the previous days, the story remained the same: plenty of interest, enthusiastic reactions, and a constant flow of people eager to give shuffleboard a try.
It has been fantastic to keep hearing how much people enjoy playing shuffleboard. Even more rewarding was the feedback from the organisers themselves. They told us that shuffleboard proved to be far more popular than they had expected beforehand. Throughout the event, there was almost always a crowd around our boards, with visitors continuously stopping by to learn more and join in.
What stood out most was the audience we managed to reach. Children, teenagers, young adults, and parents all took part in the game. These are exactly the groups we would love to engage more with back home in the Netherlands. It was wonderful to see how accessible our sport is and how quickly people became enthusiastic about it, regardless of age or experience.
The day concluded with the official Closing Ceremony at The Milk Market in the centre of Limerick. It was a beautiful way to end a remarkable week filled with sport, culture, new friendships, and unforgettable experiences.
As the Dutch Shuffleboard Federation (ANS), we embraced this invitation from the very beginning. To be honest, we did not fully know what to expect or what the event would bring us. Looking back now, we can confidently say that it exceeded all of our expectations.
This week has shown that shuffleboard has a future beyond the Netherlands. The level of interest, the positive feedback, the new connections we have made, and the enthusiasm to continue developing the sport all demonstrate that there are real opportunities to grow shuffleboard internationally. We are excited to build on that momentum in the coming months and years.
Most importantly, this event has once again proven that shuffleboard is truly a sport for everyone.
The European Sport for All Games 2026 have certainly left us wanting more. Perhaps we will meet again at the TAFISA World Sport for All Games 2028, or at the next European Sport for All Games in 2030. Thanks to everything we have learned this week, we already have plenty of ideas on how to prepare even better for future international events.
