Not so long ago, the perspective of the mystics was known to mainstream scientists (Einstein, Bohr), philosophers (Wittgenstein, Heidegger, etc.), artists, and writers. That is no longer the case. References in texts are no longer understood in that way.
This also happens in the wonderful poetry collection ‘De Gedichtenapotheek’ (The Poetry Pharmacy), which is remarkably full of mystical poetry—without compiler Philip Huff showing any awareness of that mystical layer. He reads this poem by e.e. cummings as a confession of a secret crush. Also a beautiful interpretation.
But here’s the deepest secret nobody knows (i.e., that nobody knows as an object in the world), the root of the root and the bud of the bud, the wonder of life: that your essence is the essence of everything, and that you can call that unity, or God, or fate, truth, love. It is what the mind cannot hide and what keeps the stars apart. We carry it in our heart.
