Our brain is set to crave clarity and certainty. That's why we continue doing things we are familiar with. So even though you are experiencing negative feelings, you already know how things will end.
When you can't predict the outcome, it is considered a threat. Uncertainty is more painful for our brain than staying in our negative comfort zone.
