The Holy Rosary is one of the most beloved prayers in the Catholic Church. Through it, Catholics meditate on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ while seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the early centuries of Christianity, monks prayed all 150 Psalms daily. Since many ordinary Christians could not read, they began praying 150 Our Fathers as a substitute, using pebbles or knotted cords to keep count.
Over time, the faithful gradually replaced many of these prayers with the Angelic Salutation, which later became known as the Hail Mary.

According to a long-standing Catholic tradition, in 1214 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Dominic and encouraged him to promote the Rosary as a powerful weapon against heresy and for the conversion of souls.
While historians recognize that the Rosary developed gradually over centuries, St. Dominic and the Dominican Order played a major role in spreading devotion to the Rosary throughout the Church.

The word "Rosary" comes from the Latin word rosarium, meaning "a crown of roses."
Each prayer offered with devotion is traditionally seen as a spiritual rose presented to Our Blessed Mother.

Many Popes have strongly encouraged the praying of the Rosary. Pope St. John Paul II called it "a compendium of the Gospel" because it leads us to contemplate the saving mysteries of Jesus Christ.
The Church teaches that the Rosary is a powerful means of growing in holiness, deepening faith, and obtaining spiritual strength.

The Rosary is not merely the repetition of prayers. It is a prayerful meditation on the life of Christ through the eyes of His Blessed Mother.
When we pray the Rosary with faith and devotion, Mary always leads us closer to her Son.
"Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did." — St. Maximilian Kolbe
