Have you heard of the Rule of Double?
I’ve lived by it for years:
If I can’t afford to buy something twice in the same day, I don’t buy it at all.
Four years ago, I bought an iPhone 13.
At the time, I had an early morning personal training job with an expatriate client.
I left Rumuigbo around 5:20am every day to meet up in Trans-Amadi by 6:00am.
One morning at Rumuola, I entered a one-chance cab.
When we got to the front of Hotel Presidential, the driver said he wanted to “close the door well” and asked me to come down.
The moment I stepped out, they sped off.
A passerby shouted, “Check your pocket!”
That’s when I realized my iPhone was gone.
No panic. No drama.
I picked up my small Android phone, called my plug, and got another iPhone 13 that same day.
Retrieved my SIM, and continued my day like nothing happened.
That moment reinforced everything for me.
Especially with personal belongings, I don’t buy it if I can’t afford two immediately.
So if you see me driving a Benz, just know, I can afford it twice.
The Rule of Double teaches:
Discipline
Delayed gratification
Financial confidence
Practice it.
Happy end of the month.
