IHUOWO TOWN AGOG AS THE CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF AHOADA EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL, HON. GODSTIME EGOR AND THE LEGAL ADVISER, HON. (BARR.) EZE AKE HOST THE WIKEMATICS FAMILY OF WARD 10

The good people of Ward 10 in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday 3rd January, 2026, gathered in Ihuowo Town to celebrate members of the Wikematics family in the Ward and to reassure their unwavering love and commitment to the Wike Political Family under the leadership of Chief Barr. Benjamin Israel Eke, DSSRS.
The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of gift items, such as wrappers, rice, cash, etc, to women, men and youth groups.
The people were highly elated and appreciative of the new year's gifts and hosting by the two top aides of the Executive Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, and promised to continually support the Executive Chairman; and also Hon. Benjamin Israel Eke who has been a strong pillar of support for the Wikematics family of Ward 10 and the entire Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, has described the recent plan by a State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct local government elections with only 21 days' notice as a violation of the law and a Supreme Court judgment.

Yakubu made this statement while hosting the leadership of state electoral bodies in his office in Abuja. He stated that it is practically impossible for political parties to conduct primaries, nominate candidates, organise campaigns, and for the electoral umpire to implement constitutional guidelines within such a short timeframe. He advised strict compliance with the mandatory notice period required by law. It is not clear if the INEC Chairman was referring to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, which recently announced August 30 as the new date for conducting local government elections in the state, following an earlier postponement from August 9 due to a declared state of emergency.

As of today, Rivers State is the only state that has announced plans to conduct local government elections.
