A pizza shop owner saw something outside his restaurant that he couldn’t ignore.
An elderly woman was eating pizza from the garbage.
So he walked over, threw the discarded food away and handed her a fresh slice instead.
She started crying.
He simply told her:
“Don’t cry. Eat.”
The moment stayed with him.
So Daniel Romano, owner of D’Romano’s Pizza in the Bronx, put a handwritten sign in his window for anyone else who might be hungry.
It read:
“To the people eating out of the garbage, I have more love for you than you think. Please tell me if you’re hungry, I will give you a slice of pizza.”
The sign went viral.
Not because it was complicated.
Because it treated people with dignity.
Romano said nobody should feel like they have to eat from a garbage can when there is food inside his restaurant.
Sometimes kindness is as simple as noticing someone who needs help and making sure they don’t have to ask twice.
