Rafael Leão Breaks Silence: “I’ll Never Regret defending or fighting for my Teammate’s.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “Rafa, everyone is talking about the incident. What really happened?”
🇵🇹 Rafael Leão: “People only saw the reaction. They didn’t see what led to it. The game was getting heated, there were challenges flying in, and tensions were rising between both teams.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “The footage shows you getting involved after one of your teammates was confronted. Were you trying to defend him?”
🇵🇹 Leão: “Of course. We’re a team. When I saw one of my teammates surrounded and things starting to get out of control, I stepped in. Maybe I could have handled it differently, but in that moment, my instinct was to protect my teammate.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “Did you expect the referee to show a red card?”
🇵🇹 Leão: “Not really. Everything happened very fast. I wasn’t thinking about cards or consequences. I was thinking about the situation in front of me.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “Some people believe you lost your temper.”
🇵🇹 Leão: “I understand why they might think that. But football is an emotional game. When you care about your teammates and your country, sometimes emotions take over.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “There are already reports that FIFA could review the incident and possibly take action. Are you worried?”
🇵🇹 Leão: “I’m focused on football. If FIFA decides to review it, I respect the process. All I ask is that they look at the entire situation, not just the reaction at the end.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “So you don’t regret standing up for your teammate?”
🇵🇹 Leão: “I regret that the situation escalated. But I’ll never regret having my teammate’s back.”
🎙️ Interviewer: “One final message for Portugal fans ahead of the World Cup?”
🇵🇹 Leão: “Don’t worry about me. My focus is on representing Portugal and helping this team achieve something special. The passion you saw today is the same passion I’ll bring to the World Cup.”
