Liam Carter, just 12 years old, stood before the judge, a grin tugging at his lips. Charged with burglary and assaulting an elderly man, he seemed detached. “Do you understand the charges?” Judge Marston asked. “Yeah, I guess,” Liam replied. “You think this is funny?” she asked sharply. “He shouldn’t have interfered,” Liam said.
