Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan," Ushakov told Russian media, "From January 1, 2025, they will officially acquire the status of BRICS partner country ... But we expect that in the near future responses will come from four more countries, to which invitations were also sent," Russian news agency Tass reported.

The Kremlin aide added that more than 20 states, in addition to the selected partner countries, are showing interest in a systemic dialogue with the BRICS group, Tass said in a separate report.

Commenting on Russian side's confirmation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press briefing Tuesday that "In October, President Xi Jinping attended the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan and reached important consensus with the leaders of other BRICS countries on establishing a partner country mechanism, which is another milestone in the process of BRICS development after the historic membership expansion."

Islam is the world's fastest growing religion, according to a new study from the Pew Research Center.

The study says that by 2050, Christianity will still be the world's largest religious group, coming in at 2.92 billion followers.

But Islam will grow rapidly to come in a close second at 2.76 billion. That's more than a billion members higher than right now.

That growth will come mostly because Muslims have more children, and the world's current Muslim population is much younger than the Christian population.

By 2050, the study shows Muslims will make up 10 percent of the overall population of Europe. And while India will retain a Hindu majority, it will also have the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, surpassing Indonesia.

In the United States, Christians are expected to decline from more than three-quarters of the population in 2010 to two-thirds in 2050. And Islam is on track to become the largest non-Christian religion in the U.S, surpassing Judaism.

The largest Christian growth in the world will likely come in sub-Saharan Africa, which will become home to four out of every 10 Christians.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says that it reached not less than 1.4 million people in Nigeria with its assistance in 2024.

Amy Pope, Director-General of IOM

The IOM Chief of Mission in Nigeria, Ms. Paola Pace, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in Abuja.

She said that the organisation achieved such through broad range of actions spanning the nexus that included 1,197,432 beneficiaries of humanitarian support.

This, according to Pace, included Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), WASH services, and Shelter and Non-Food Items (S/NFI) assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host communities.

She said that 30,562 individuals were supported through development initiatives, such as livelihood and resilience-building programmes in the year.

The IOM boss added that 10,332 people benefiting from peace building efforts targeting conflict-affected communities.

“Our outreach has been significant in both rural and urban areas, providing critical services to internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities,” she said.

Pace reiterated its commitment to scaling up humanitarian assistance and fostering durable solutions for the most vulnerable populations in Nigeria in 2025.

According to her, Nigerians can expect even greater efforts from IOM in expanding humanitarian reach and scaling up support for vulnerable populations.

The IOM boss said further that the organisation would also be driving initiatives that empowered individuals and communities.

“In 2025, IOM plans to scale these numbers up, especially as the country transitions from humanitarian action to foster durable solutions, ensuring a more sustainable future for

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, our planet captured the tiny asteroid named 2024 PT5, turning it into a temporary mini-moon.

This intriguing event was first spotted by astronomers at the Complutense University of Madrid. Richard Binzel, an astronomer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), shared some insights about these celestial visitors.

“These happen with some frequency, but we rarely see them because they’re very small and very hard to detect,” Binzel said. “Only recently has our survey capability reached the point of spotting them routinely.”

Using a powerful telescope located in Sutherland, South Africa, the team from Complutense University detected the small space rock back in August.

What are mini-moons?

What exactly are mini-moons, and how often do they visit us?

Mini-moons like 2024 PT5 are small asteroids that Earth’s gravity grabs for a bit, letting them orbit our planet before they move on.

These little guys usually travel around the sun like other asteroids, but when they get close enough to Earth, our gravitational pull can pull them into a temporary orbit.

They don’t stick around for long — they might hang out for a few weeks or months before breaking free and continuing their journey around the sun.

Scientists find mini-moons really interesting because they give us a chance to study near-Earth objects up close and learn more about how our solar system works.
