Candidates of the best player of EPL Matchweek 24: Who is your pick?

EPL pick the eight contenders for the official Premier League Player of the Matchweek.

Matchweek 24 of the 2025/26 Premier League season featured some outstanding individual performances.

Casemiro (Man Utd 3-2 Fulham)

Casemiro delivered an excellent all-round performance in Manchester United’s dramatic late win over Fulham.

He opened the scoring with a powerful header from Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick before producing a clever no-look pass to assist Matheus Cunha for Man Utd's second goal.

The Brazilian, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season, showed exactly what they will be missing when he departs.

Habib Diarra (Sunderland 3-0 Burnley)

On his first start since returning from his successful AFCON campaign with Senegal, Diarra was involved in two first-half goals in an emphatic victory over Burnley.

The midfielder's ninth-minute effort was diverted in by Axel Tuanzebe for the opener, before he doubled the Black Cats' advantage with a goal of his own midway through the first half.

Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool 4-1 Newcastle)

Ekitike starred as Liverpool earned their first league victory of 2026.

After Liverpool had gone behind, the Frenchman turned the game on its head with a quick-fire double just before the interval, setting the tone for a convincing win.

Caoimhin Kelleher (Aston Villa 0-1 Brentford)

Brentford kept their first clean sheet away from home in the Premier League and owed that fact to the performance of goalkeeper Kelleher.

The Republic of Ireland international produced a commanding display against title-chasing Aston Villa, making several fine saves, in particular the ones that denied Tammy Abraham and Matty Cash.

Noni Madueke (Leeds 0-4 Arsenal)

Madueke was a late addition to Arsenal’s starting XI, after Bukayo Saka was ruled out in the warm-up, and he took the sudden opportunity to impress by running riot down the right flank.

The winger created Martin Zubimendi's opener with a magnificent cross, and he capped a standout display by scoring directly from a corner to register his first-ever Premier League goal for Arsenal.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea 3-2 West Ham)

Joao Pedro made a decisive impact as a half-time substitute, as Chelsea came from 2-0 down at the break to claim an impressive comeback victory.

The Brazilian sparked the revival, by nodding home Wesley Fofana’s cross, and helped to complete it when he showed great composure to square the ball for Enzo Fernandez’s stoppage-time winner.

These two moments made Joao Pedro the first Chelsea substitute to score and assist in the same Premier League match since Ben Chilwell in September 2022.

Xavi Simons (Spurs 2-2 Man City)

Simons was the driving force behind Tottenham Hotspur’s second-half improvement as they rescued a point against Manchester City.

He produced an all-action display that showed just what he is capable of, and provided the assist for Solanke's first goal with a sublime outside-of-the-boot pass.

Simons' numbers following the match made for impressive viewing. The Netherlands international ended with the most touches (84), most duels won (10), most possession wins (seven), most shots (five), most successful take-ons (four), most chances created (four) and most fouls won (four).

Dominic Solanke (Spurs 2-2 Man City)

Solanke scored two goals, including a stunning contender for the goal of the season, as Spurs achieved a remarkable comeback against Pep Guardiola's title-chasers.

Having halved the deficit, Solanke made it 2-2 with a stunning 70th-minute 'scorpion-kick' which somehow looped over Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the net.

Tactics went out the window' – Rosenior hails Chelsea's fighting spirit

Liam Rosenior quipped "tactics went out the window" for Chelsea as they completed a stunning turnaround to beat West Ham 3-2 in the Premier League.

Chelsea were booed off at half-time after goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville gave West Ham a shock 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge.

However, Rosenior made a triple substitution at half-time, with those changes playing a key role as Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella scored, with the former also setting up Enzo Fernandez's 92nd-minute winner.

Chelsea won a Premier League match having been two goals behind at half-time for the first time ever in the competition.

And Rosenior believes the victory is down to Chelsea's fighting spirit, as the Blues moved up to fourth.

"There's many emotions, but I'm so happy for the players," Rosenior told Sky Sports. "The fight, the spirit and commitment they showed in the second half.

"Tactics went out the window; it was about personality, quality and character. The players definitely showed that.

"I made three changes; we had the injury to Jamie Gittens. I sensed an energy before the game; it's very difficult going away to Italy [to face Napoli in the Champions League], the emotions of that game, and I made changes to the team.

"I trust my group, but the first half was nowhere near the level of application or energy.

"I stayed calm with them and said we can turn what probably feels like the worst day of our season into the best, and they were magnificent in the second half."

Rosenior became the fourth English manager to win his first three Premier League games in charge, after Bobby Gould in August 1992, Sam Allardyce in August 2001 and Craig Shakespeare (first five) in April 2017.

"I'm learning about this group very quickly," he added. "I've been here three and a half weeks, we've played seven games.

"I've said I'm going to give them all a chance. Hato's an outstanding player, [Benoit] Badiashile's an outstanding player, so's [Alejandro] Garnacho.

"It wasn't about them individually, but our functionality in the first half wasn't there.

"You can see the fight, energy and spirit in the group, which they all have. To come back like we did in Napoli shows me a lot of really positive things."

West Ham, meanwhile, finished with 10 players as Jean-Clair Todibo, who missed a glorious chance to put the Hammers ahead prior to Chelsea's winner, was shown a red card for grabbing Joao Pedro by the neck.

And they lost an away match in which they were two goals ahead at the break for the second time (lost 3-2 to Wigan Athletic in May 2011).

West Ham had 11 shots to Chelsea's 11, and matched the Blues' six shots on target, but Nuno Espirito Santo was left frustrated by the second-half performance.

"Good first half, bad second half," he told Sky Sports. "We played really well, controlled the game, defended well. We created a lot of danger.

"At half-time, I said we needed to defend, to do things properly, keep the same idea, control the game and manage the momentum.

"We knew Chelsea would react, but we defended badly and should have done better.

"It's a reaction [to retreat], but it's not what we should have done. We should have kept the same idea as the first half."

Wirtz lauds 'unbelievable' Ekitike as Liverpool pair continue to dazzle
13 hours ago / autty
Florian Wirtz lauded Hugo Ekitike as "unbelievable" after the duo continued their link-up to propel Liverpool to a big win over Newcastle United.
Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead at Anfield, but Wirtz teed up Ekitike for an equaliser five minutes later.

Ekitike swiftly doubled his tally with an exquisite finish, with Wirtz then scoring Liverpool's third midway through the second half, paving the way for Ibrahima Konate's late goal to seal a 4-1 victory.

Wirtz and Ekitike have now combined for six goals in the Premier League this term, more than any other duo.

"He is just unbelievable," Wirtz told TNT Sports when asked about Ekitike, who has become the youngest player for Liverpool to reach double figures in a league season since Michael Owen in 2000-01.

"You can see him today again two fantastic goals, and it is just fun to play with him on the pitch.

"Happy I could assist him again today after many assists from him to me."

Since December 20, when he registered his first goal involvement for the Reds in the top tier, Wirtz has been involved in more goals than any other Premier League player in all competitions (nine – six goals, three assists).

"I am very happy. As I said before the game I always love to score and assist and help the team to win," Wirtz added.

"I want to continue like that because it makes you happy and gives you more confidence. When you can help the team win it is always good."

Habib Beye admits Rennes players are ‘sought after’ amid Chelsea’s pursuit of Jérémy Jacquet.

Was that the last time we see Jérémy Jacquet (20) in a Stade Rennais shirt? The Frenchman started as the Breton club lost 4-0 to AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II on Saturday night.

The defender is strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, and Sky Sports understands that he has made a move to Stamford Bridge his preference. Further talks between Chelsea and Rennes are expected before the closure of the transfer window.

Speaking at a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News, Beye evoked the ongoing transfer window. “It is a situation that is disturbing for everyone. We have profiles that are sought after. This period isn’t simple. We’ll have to get through it,” said the Rennes manager.

Beyond Jacquet, a target for Chelsea, as well as Liverpool, Rennes also look resigned to lose Mohamed Kader Meité, who wasn’t even included in the matchday squad to face Monaco. Alongside Jacquet, Meité is considered the brightest academy prospect in Beye’s ranks. Rennes could lose both before the closure of the transfer window on Monday night.

Gerrard compares Ekitike to Torres after forward's double against Newcastle.

Hugo Ekitike produced arguably his best performance in a Liverpool shirt with a brace in the 4-1 win over Newcastle and Steven Gerrard compared him to a Liverpool legend.

The former Champions League-winning midfielder formed a deadly combination with Fernando Torres at Anfield in his pomp and sees similarities between the Spaniard and Ekitike.

Speaking on punditry duty for TNT on Saturday night, Gerrard said: 'It's Torres-like. He just gets it out of his feet and it's that toe poke. He reminds me of Torres, this player, every time I watch him.

'He's scoring similar types of goals, where if you give him space in the channel, he'll run it, he's too quick, you can't catch him and he's deadly.’

Torres was referring to Ekitike's second goal in which the defender Malick Thiaw gave him too much respect on the outside.

The Frenchman pushed forward before slotting a toe-poke into the far corner past Nick Pope with ruthless efficiency.

His first of the night was an instinctive finish after clever movement that was picked out in the box by Florian Wirtz, with whom he is developing a deadly combination.

Ekitike spoke to the TNT pundits after the game and when the Torres comparison was put to him, he offered a humble response.

The 23-year-old said: 'Back in the day, I couldn’t watch the Premier League to be honest, my mum didn't pay so I couldn't see!

‘I have watched some clips of YouTube. I will never put myself on that bracket. He was an incredible player.

‘If I reach his level it would be great. I have to keep working.’

Gerrard chipped in again saying: 'There are a lot of similarities, pace, power, you can score, you can assist.'

When asked if he had a target number of goals for the season, he added: 'It's a hard question, obviously I want to score a lot of goals, I'd love to be the top scorer of the club but I don't think of a certain number, I just want to be involved in helping the team to win. I also love to give assists, like to Flo (Wirtz).'

'We came here with confidence,' he went on, but I think tonight was also about team spirit. Everybody tonight was running everywhere.'

Torres is one of Liverpool's finest strikers and ended up with 65 goals in 102 appearances for the club before his controversial exit to join Chelsea.

Ekitike is already on 14 goals in all competitions for his new club having signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for £69million.

With Alexander Isak out for the long term with a broken leg, the burden has fallen on the Frenchman and he is showing himself to be up for the task.
