*Miami ready for big-name signings – Beckham:*

David Beckham says Inter Miami are ready to make big-name signings as they prepare for their second season in Major League Soccer under new coach Phil Neville.
Speaking Saturday at an event to launch Miami’s new jersey, Inter co-owner Beckham said the club saw home-grown talent as the cornerstone of the franchise’s long-term success.

However he acknowledged that Inter remained in the hunt for big-name players, citing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have both previously indicated interest in playing in MLS.

“I have said from day one that our academy system is a massive part of this club and if we can bring players through here that have lived and breathed Inter Miami then that is the goal,” Beckham told AFP.

“But we also know that being in Miami, our fans want to see the big stars.

“We already have players like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi who add to the glitz and glamour but also going forward we want to have the opportunity to bring some great names in.”

Asked about Messi and Ronaldo, Beckham refused to rule out a move for either player.

“The player has to be right for the team, still have ambition and want to win,” Beckham said.

“So whatever player we talk to, we have to make sure that is a priority.

“Of course, we always want to bring in great players. Miami is a great pull for anyone and those kinds of players (Messi and Ronaldo) are the kind we aspire to bring here.”

Beckham said Miami’s recruitment policy took inspiration from his former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson.

“Sir Alex Ferguson was the master at choosing the right player, he didn’t always bring the best player in the world, he brought the right player for the club and that is one of the things that I have taken into this place,” he said.

Miami boss Neville has already added former Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross to his squad as well as Brazilian midfielder Gregore while talks with West Bromwich Albion full-back Kieran Gibbs continue.

*Everton star Richarlison reveals what he said to Virgil van Dijk during heated Merseyside derby row*

Everton forward Richarlison has explained his heated row with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk during the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

The Brazilian squared up to the Reds centre-back and exclaimed 'who do you think you are?' as he admitted he was trying to waste time with the game appearing to be closing out to a 0-0 draw.

Richarlison has never been the biggest fan of the Dutch international - after he claimed he was not the best defender in the world and that Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva and Maqruinhos are all better than him.

However, their rivalry dates back to 2018 at Anfield when the two got involved in a scrap that Richarlison said he 'was never going to back down' from.

'Of course I was never going to back down,' he said to Globo Esporte. 'There was a disagreement during the game, which ended up in the typical heated way.

'I was also having the fight to waste time, and the Liverpool players did not like it. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez tried to get involved.

'But it was nothing out of the ordinary. In the whole fight we wasted five minutes, which was good for the team. I said (to Van Dijk) in Portuguese: 'who do you think you are?'

'They were defending their colours and we were defending ours, it was a typical derby.'

Despite the forward's best efforts to take time off the clock, they fell short to a 1-0 defeat after a bizzare winner from Divock Origi in the final moments.

In the aftermath, due to the heated nature of the match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was reprimanded for his celebrations after the Origi winner.

Spurs & Mourinho hold evening talks and could strike a deal in the morning (Sky)

Representatives of Tottenham and Jose Mourinho are this evening locked in negotiations for the Portuguese to replace Mauricio Pochettino, reports Sky Sports.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December last year.

Sky Sports claims the three-time Premier League winner is in advanced talks to become Tottenham's new manager and both parties believe a deal will be concluded by the morning.

Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked from his role as Tottenham coach, it has been confirmed.

The Argentine manager had come under pressure amid his side's underwhelming start to the season, as they sit 14th in the Premier League table and 20 points behind leaders Liverpool. The London club are also 11 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, having failed to win any of their last five games in the English top-flight.

And chairman Daniel Levy has confirmed that the club have decided to make a change.

"We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste," he told the club's website..

“Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.

“It falls to the Board to make the difficult decisions - this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff - but we do so in the Club's best interests.

“Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history. I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us. I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.

“We have a talented squad. We need to re-energise and look to deliver a positive season for our supporters.”
