The way you talk to yourself is a habit, not a fact.

Most people never question their inner voice. It criticizes, and they just accept it as accurate because it's familiar, because it's been saying the same things for years.

But familiar isn't the same as true.

Here's a simple practice: every time you catch a harsh thought about yourself, ask, "Would I say this to someone I love?" If the answer is no, that thought doesn't get to stay unchallenged.

Renewing your mind isn't about ignoring your thoughts. It's about interrogating them before you let them shape you.

Comment "INTERROGATING" if you're ready to start questioning your inner voice instead of obeying it automatically.

She used to shut down completely whenever someone raised their voice at her even slightly.

Not because the moment itself was that dramatic. But because as a child, raised voices meant something was about to go very wrong.

Her body learned to brace long before her mind understood why.

For years, she thought she was just "sensitive." It took a lot of reflection to realize that she wasn't overreacting to the present. She was reacting to the past, wearing the present as a costume.

Once she understood that, she stopped being angry at herself for the reaction. She started getting curious about the wound underneath it instead.

That curiosity is where her healing actually began.

Not every strong reaction is about what just happened.

Sometimes it's about what happened years ago, resurfacing.

The panic when someone goes quiet. The anger when you feel dismissed. The need to control every outcome. These aren't random, they're often old wounds responding to a new trigger.

Here's the shift: instead of asking "why am I overreacting," ask "what is this actually reminding me of?"

That question doesn't excuse the behavior. It explains it and explanation is where healing starts.

You can't heal a wound you keep mislabeling as a personality flaw.

You'd never let a stranger talk to you the way you talk to yourself!

"You're so stupid." "You always mess this up." "You'll never change." We tolerate a level of self-criticism from our own inner voice that we'd never accept from another human being.

That voice isn't neutral, it was shaped somewhere.
A critical parent
A harsh comparison
Your own fear talking etc

It is not automatically the voice of truth. Philippians 4:8 says to think on what is true, noble, and lovely.

Self-talk isn't automatic, it's a discipline you can actually choose.
