Ekiti State has once again demonstrated its leadership in sports development by producing outstanding talents like Ezekiel Temitope. Rising from Little League to university competitions, Ezekiel exemplifies the state’s unique commitment to nurturing athletes across all levels. Ekiti is the only state in Nigeria and indeed in Africa to incorporate baseball and softball into the curricula of three universities, making it a pioneer in sports education and youth development on the continent.

As a dedicated Coordinator, Coach, and Umpire, Ezekiel has been at the forefront of promoting baseball and softball in Ekiti State. His passion and leadership have helped establish these sports as vital components of Nigeria’s sporting landscape, inspiring a new generation of young athletes. His efforts have not only elevated the profile of these games but also demonstrated Ekiti’s innovative approach to sports integration and youth engagement.

Academically, Ezekiel’s achievements are equally remarkable. He graduated as the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, in 2026. His groundbreaking research, titled "NUTRITION KNOWLEDGE, DIETARY PRACTICES, AND PERCEIVED PERFORMANCE OF BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL ATHLETES IN EKITI STATE," is believed to be the first comprehensive study linking nutrition to athletic performance among baseball and softball athletes in Nigeria, Africa. underscoring his commitment to holistic athlete development.

Celebrating Excellence Beyond the Baseball Diamond.

The Ekiti Kete Baseball and Softball Association is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel in sports, academics, leadership, and character. Today, we proudly recognize OBASUYI Ayomide, a dedicated member of our community who has served as Coordinator, Coach, and Umpire within Ekiti State.

Obasuyi started playing baseball from Little League through high school and college, exemplifying a lifelong passion for the sport. Notably, Ekiti State is the only state in Nigeria actively participating in baseball and softball from Little League to the university level. Additionally, baseball and softball have been incorporated into some of Ekiti State’s university curricula, further emphasizing the sport’s importance in our community.

Academically, Obasuyi distinguished himself as the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Computer Science at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) Ekiti State, Nigeria for the 2025 academic session. His dedication to mentoring young athletes, promoting fair play, and upholding sportsmanship exemplifies leadership, discipline, and integrity values vital for developing future leaders.

His achievements demonstrate how empowerment across multiple domains can lead to success. Obasuyi embodies teamwork, perseverance, and dedication, inspiring our community and elevating baseball standards in Ekiti. The game of baseball, softball, and Baseball5 are experiencing rapid growth in Nigeria's university, particularly in Ekiti State, with three universities having integrated these games into their curricula. During the recent mid-year edition of the baseball, softball, and Baseball5 games in Ekiti State, students from Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) and Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) demonstrated their enthusiasm and determination despite financial constraints.

The event started with Baseball5, a fast-paced and innovative game, before transitioning into traditional baseball. Participants demonstrated teamwork, friendship, and national pride, sharing moments of joy and sportsmanship. Their dedication highlights the potential of these games to unite and inspire Nigerian youth.

Led by our visionary president Prof. Oladepo Patrick Oyeniyi and chairperson of Nigeria Women In Sports (NAWIS) Ekiti State chapter Dr Mrs Olufunke Olayinka Aina the growth of baseball, softball, and Baseball5 reflects Nigeria’s promising future in sports. As these games expand, they will continue to promote unity, discipline, and excellence among young Nigerians.

Yesterday marked another exciting and spirited day of competition between Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI), and Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU). Despite limited funding, our student-athletes eagerly contributed a token to cover transportation costs from their respective universities, demonstrating dedication and commitment to showcasing their talents.

The event began with Baseball5 and transitioned into traditional baseball, highlighting that baseball is more than just a game, it is a game of love, unity, and passion. The students had the opportunity to meet new friends, share snacks and water, and enjoy a day filled with sportsmanship.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our President, Prof. Pat Oladepo Patrick Oyeniyi. We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to our mother, Dr Mrs Olufunke Olayinka Aina, Chairperson of NAWIS Ekiti Chapter, for her heartfelt support and encouragement. Her presence and motivation for students regarding their education, as well as her encouragement to women and girls in sports, have been truly inspiring.

Dear Valued Supporters,

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for your generous contributions and ongoing support. Last year, we launched a GoFundMe campaign to facilitate the shipment of gently used baseball and softball equipment and apparel generously donated by friends and supporters across the United States to our local leagues in Ekiti State, Nigeria.
