Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi reacts after winning the men's 800m at the 2026 Weltklasse Zürich - Wanda Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

The Kenyan produced a world-leading run to hold off a strong challenge from Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati in the race. Wanyonyi won in 1:41.76, with Sedjati close behind in a season’s best of 1:41.83.

"Before the start of the race. I had a big problem with my stomach. I though that maybe I cannot go to finish the race well. But I just got here to win. Just to try to run fast, to run my own race.

"This result shows that my body is coming up. And I am so happy to be here with this great crowds. I give the atmosphere 200 per cent. And when I see the world records being broken, I know my time will come. There is time for everything."

Kenya's Faith Cherotich reacts after winning the women's 3000m steeplechase at the 2026 Weltklasse Zürich - Wanda Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

World champion Cherotich led a Kenyan one-two from Doris Lemngole, winning by 0.12 in 8:55.82. Uganda's Peruth Chemutai also finished inside nine minutes, clocking 8:58.28.

Cherotich claimed back-to-back Diamond League victories in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase in Zurich, successfully defending her 2024 title and securing her place in the season-ending Diamond League Final in Brussels.

"I am happy to run here, it is my third time in Zurich. My next goal is to finish the season well in Brussels. The season has been good for me."

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the world record-holder heading into Zurich, reflects after running a season's best of 12.23 secs to finish second in women's 100m hurdles at the Weltklasse Zürich Wanda Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

USA's Masai Russell stopped the clock at 12.09 to take 0.03 off Amusan's previous world record for victory. European champion Nadine Visser finished third in a season’s best of 12.34.

World lead for Wanyonyi in 800m and comfortable win for Cherotich in Steeplechase at Weltklasse Zürich - Wanda Diamond League 2026

Emmanuel Wanyonyi wins the non-Diamond League 800m in a world-leading 1:41.76...but he has to fight for it as Djamel Sedjati snaps at his heels all the way down the home straight, coming in just 0.07 seconds short of the Kenyan.

Compatriot Faith Cherotich cruises to victory with 8:55.82 in the women's 3000m steeplechase ahead of Doris Lemngole, who sets a personal best of 8:55.94.

🚨WORLD RECORD ALERT!!!

Alison Dos Santos breaks the world record in the men's 400m hurdles with 45.80 secs, knocking a full 0.14 seconds off Warholm's world record from five years ago.

The Brazilian claims he knew he was in that kind of form, but nobody expected that - a Diamond League Record and Meeting Record.

Warholm, second in 46.69, is left standing open-mouthed on the finish line. Nigeria's Ezekiel Nathaniel takes the third place in 47.50.

🚨Alfred wins 100m photo finish at Weltklasse Zürich - 2026 Wanda Diamond League

What a finish in the women's 100m! The latest duel between Julien Alfred and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden might be their best yet — both exploded out of the blocks and went neck-and-neck to the line.

Alfred edged it in a photo finish by just five thousandths of a second, with both officially timed at 10.70.

That’s a national record for Alfred and a season’s best for Jefferson-Wooden, who suffers her first 100m defeat since the 2024 Olympics.

"This is so good. The last 200m were very hard. It was a technical run. I come from the 800m, this was only the second 1500m race in my career. I am very happy about the victory."

Global champions will clash at the Weltklasse Zürich – the last Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season ahead of the series final in Brussels next month.

The competition kicks off with the women’s pole vault city event at Zurich Main Station on Wednesday (26) before the main meeting at the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.

World champion Faith Cherotich will want to rebound in the 3000m steeplechase after finishing second behind Olympic champion Winfred Yavi in Lausanne. Yavi doesn’t race in Zurich but Peruth Chemutai, who won against Cherotich in Shaoxing/Keqiao and Xiamen, does return to action.

USA’s Olympic champion Masai Russell will aim to maintain her season-long win streak in the 100m hurdles – a season that includes a 12.14 performance in Xiamen in May, a mark just 0.02 off the world record. She faces world record-holder Tobi Amusan, Alaysha Johnson, Nadine Visser and home favourite Ditaji Kambundji.

Two-time Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek, the winner in Rabat and Stockholm, goes in the 200m against Sinesipho Dambile who is aiming for a second Diamond League win of the season.

Media Academy showcases rising talent at World U20 Championships in Oregon

Led by Head of Media Operations Zacharias Vailakis and Media Operations Senior Manager Martina Kučerová, the World Athletics Media Academy is an initiative designed to nurture the next generation of sports media professionals across journalism, photography and TV commentary.

By addressing critical gaps in talent, diversity and expertise, the academy aims to ensure a strong future for athletics storytelling. Oregon hosted the third World Athletics Media Academy of 2026, following those held during the World Relays in Botswana and the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Rome.
