NPFL Round-Up: Enyimba, Heartland Return To Winning Ways, As 10-Man El-Kanemi Warriors Shock Rivers United
Enyimba FC retuned to winning ways after defeating hard fighting Ikorodu City 2 - 1 in one of the NPFL match day 9 encounters decided over the weekend.
A 90 +2 minutes header by the center back, Adiukwu Moses off Imo Obot's cross ensured that the People's Elephant returned back to winning ways after two unpleasant results in matchday 7 and 8.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele had given the Aba giants an early lead in 6th minute of the first half but Ikorodu City found an equalizer in the final minute of regulation time, through Ajayigbe Tayoobe.
With seven minutes additional time, Enyimba went back in front courtesy a header from Moses Adikwu to win 2-1.
Enyimba will next travel to Yenegoa for a date with Bayelsa United on Sunday November 3.
While, Ikorodu City will host Rivers United next at home on matchday ten of the NPFL 2024/2025 season.
Meanwhile, a 40th minute goal by Abia Warriors hitman, Sunday Megwo, was all that the warriors needed to defeat Bendel Insurance 1-0 and get their first away win in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League season.
After receiving the ball in the centre circle, Innocent Godwin laid a simple pass to Paul Sampson, who skipped past his marker to cross the ball into the box for the on-rushing Sunday Megwo to tap into the net, and silence the home crowd.
It was a superlative display from the Warriors to ensure a well deserved victory and condemn the Benin Arsenals to their first home loss this campaign.
The Pride of Abia held on to beat Bendel Insurance for the first time in three outings.
In Port Harcourt, El-Kanemi Warriors shocked Rivers United to extend their unbeaten run despite playing a majority of the game with a man disadvantaged .
