This study compared the riding skills of skilled (Men's Junior, U21) and less-skilled (Men's Youth, U16) mountain bike cyclists during a real trail simulation at Putrajaya Challenge Park, Malaysia. Ten male athletes completed a 3 km course incorporating technical climbing, descending, cornering, braking, and gear-shifting sections while wearing a chest-mounted GoPro camera that provided first-person video recordings for objective skill analysis and coach evaluation. The recorded footage was assessed using a standardized riding skill rubric, while cycling speed was monitored using a Garmin bike computer. Results showed that skilled riders performed significantly better in climbing, descending, braking, and cornering, whereas no significant difference was observed in gear-shifting ability. The findings highlight the value of chest-mounted video analysis as an evidence-based coaching tool that enables objective performance assessment, enhances technical feedback, identifies riding errors, and supports the design of targeted training interventions to accelerate skill acquisition and improve mountain biking performance.
