Stretch Therapy MY For those who like a story …. Kit Laughlin the founder of Stretch Therapy was an Olympic-level weight lifter and middle-distance runner. Not that yoga was bad.

t unusual among sports people. Kit explored many methods to improve his flexibility (he even attended ballet classes for 2 years!), and over time, he developed this method which he named Stretch Therapy™. It has proven safe and effective, not just through his experience, but also through the experience of teachers and tens of thousands of practitioners around the world. Kit maintains an open forum for feedback and discussion on the techniques used. This forum of Stretch Therapy teachers and students includes chiropractors, physiotherapists, medical doctors, high-level sports people and practitioners of yoga, pilates and massage. All are drawn by one aim: how to effectively and safely enhance performance and maximise wellbeing. While Kit was tight when he was developing Stretch Therapy, Wai Kuan, the teacher and founder of Stretch Therapy Centre Malaysia, was considered very flexible and strong by her peers in the field of yoga when she chanced upon the method. What struck her during her first encounter was the the extent of unevenness of her body. She finally realised why she continued to suffer body pains even though she was practising yoga religiously. It is brilliant. It is just that bit missing in her yoga practice is now completely addressed by Stretch Therapy. Chi-Chang is Wai Kuan’s husband, Like Kit, he was extremely tight. Ironically he is an avid practitioner of taiji, a Chinese martial art that emphasises relaxation and suppleness. He was aware of his shortcomings but concluded that yoga as taught in most centres would not help him to improve his taiji practice. His search though, is over. He now has an “in-house” teacher.

Some exercises never get old—like the lunge (also known as the warrior pose). Why? Because it’s a natural human movement. You use it when stepping across a drain or pothole (and there are plenty in this part of the world!), hiking in the jungle, or navigating uneven ground.

Unfortunately, modern city living doesn’t give our bodies much of that stimulation. Most surfaces are flat, predictable, and comfortable. Over time, we lose some of the strength and mobility that these movements require.

That’s where lunges come in. Regularly practicing lunges helps build strength and stability while restoring hip flexibility—keeping your body ready for the real world. 💪🌿

Michael was the true star ⭐ of this year’s TwinCity Marathon.

It was his first full marathon, and he finished well ahead of the COT (7 hours 13 minutes).

At 79 years old, he is the oldest visually-impaired runner to complete a full marathon in Malaysia.,,😎

What amazed me most was how injury-free and resilient he was throughout training and on race day. Not even a runner’s toe! Two days after the marathon, he turned up to class in his finisher’s tee as if nothing had happened — no soreness, no fatigue. Truly impressive.

I’ve known and taught Michael for over 12 years, first yoga and then Stretch Therapy. When he started, he had a shoulder injury (and other aches) and wasn’t fully convinced the practice would help. Today he moves with mastery and confidence.

Our part in his journey is small compared to his own dedication. His success isn’t just grit or willpower — it’s consistency. For 12 years he kept showing up: Stretch, yoga, spin, running. Even during COVID lockdown, he ran fire exit stairs daily alone and joined online classes. Slowly but surely, he built resilience.

A big shoutout to Adrian JY Yeo, his guide runner and training partner for the past 6 months, and to Ultraman Kannan for his training and nutrition guidance.

Michael was the true star of this year’s Twincity Marathon.

It was his first full marathon, and he finished well ahead of the COT (7 hours 13 minutes).

Hello 2025!

This is the Year of the Wood Snake in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing transformation, growth, and introspection. With this in mind, we are thrilled to share our upcoming plans:

1. Sabbatical Leave: We will be taking a 4-week sabbatical from 21 January to 15 February 2025. If your package falls within this period, a one-month extension will be applied.

2. "Deeper into the Stretch" Retreat: Join us for a 3-day, 2-night retreat in February at our serene farmstead in Gopeng. This retreat is designed to take your practice to the next level. Spots are limited, so PM us for more information.

3. HRDC Certified Training: Stretch Therapy is now a Certified Trainer under the Government Human Resources Development Corporation (HRDC). If you work for a registered contributing employer (companies with 10 or more employees), your Human Resources Department can engage us to conduct Claimable Courses. These fees are covered by the contributed amount, making the courses effectively free for you! Contact us for more details.
