Academy in Session!

Building up to the upcoming Superschools Rugby competition, both Cobra and KL Tigers had a go at each other over a cool Saturday afternoon at Padang Astaka, PJ.

Coach Dillan had this to share "The boys looked eager and played with eagerness too. Especially after celebrating Hari Raya and your body "berat (heavy)" with Lemang and Rendang. we are still working out our best fit of players so we have taken a few notes down already."

Salam Ramadhan and Good Tidings,

Yes it’s March. The goal of RMG was the creation of a space to upkeep the space for Cobra Rugby Club and its activities and a creation of space for new communities to be introduced to the location.

It was a goal based on community growth with sports economics. It was something different at the time and since we started during the Covid epidemic, it was fraught with a lot of risks.

On this note, we thank all that has been part of this journey. The various communities from Rugby, Basketball, MMA, Fencing, Hockey, Badminton, Cricket, Football and several more. Local and Overseas!

Special mention to Malaysia Rugby Union (Bunga Raya), Kesatuan Ragbi Selangor (Ladies), KL Hornbills Basketball, MASMMA (with Dan Chee) and the Basketball Community. Also Kak Nora making sure the teams and players were well fed.

One of the unique features with the place was the introduction of AI technology and App bookings via our tech partners Airupthere Technology and its’ Huddle features. The first camera was deployed here at RMG and these cameras are now in many locations in the country. Making livestream and statistical tracking accessible to all.

The whistle has blown here at Cobra. We are working on the next game.

Another round of Heavy Hits for the Academy. Before breaking into Ramadhan, the academy hosted MRSM Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang and Meru Juggernauts, Klang for a double header of rugby!

Meru Juggernauts are no strangers to the academy often competing against or organising joint sessions or even combining for a Barbarians Squad over the years. Meru Juggernauts are from Lembah Meru, Klang.

The second game of the day was against 2025 SSR Schools Champion MRSM Balik Pulau. They were on a rugby tour and played teams like Hosba in Kedah and ARAI, Ipoh. Cobra was their final stop before heading back north. Quality rugby was in display against a spirited Cobra side.

The Academy has been busy!

From one weekend of rugby to the next! After Eagle Development Series, the Academy headed to Bukit Kiara to compete in the KL Tigers International 2026 Rugby tournament.

It was a stacked tournament with a lot of quality. A few new players had their debut for the academy.

We checked in with Head Coach Dillan "The teams competing this year looked very good. Most of the teams are gearing up for oncoming Superschools Season and as expected, gave us a hard a time. All the games were close and unfortunately, the ball bounced the wrong way for us. Having said that, there were pleasant surprises with the new boys that stepped up."

The Academy finished 10th with it's only victory was against Hong Kong Rugby Football Club (who finished bottom of the pack).

Academy in session!

The Cobra Academy concluded another camp over the weekend. The players went through a series of rugby workouts and drills which included a "little" Strength and Conditioning. We got in touch with the coaches leading this session;

Coach Helmi .helmihanif "Overall I am happy with the attitude of the players. A good player needs to be coachable and i believe they showed that to me. To be better, you need to have grit. Talent is not enough"

Coach Saiful (and a Cobra Legend) "To be frank, they surprised us this weekend. They managed to hit several key targets especially at the night session. However, this is only just the start so the expectations going forward are going to be higher. And the boys are going to have to meet it. Simple as that. "

With a Heavy Heart, we are sharing that RMG will be closing 1 March 2026. As we wind down operations, our final day of basketball bookings will be 14 February.

We want to thank all for the support, energy and memories you've brought to our courts. You've been the heart of RMG and we are truly grateful.

It's 2026 and the Cobra Rugby Academy is in Session!

We checked in with a few of the coaches on their plans for the year.

"It's going to be a busy next few months. Right now, it's all about preparation and getting the players tuned for the games to come. Part of the preparation is to sort the 1st team (Blacks) and the Development side (Stingers). The interesting challenge is finding out who is continuing with us or not. Form 3 going to form 4, some are headed to boarding schools, Vocational Colleges and some headed into Form 5, are looking to focus on exams. Counter to that, we have new faces as well.

Academy in Pre-Season!

As the Cobra academy gears its entry into its sophomore season 2026, it ran a series of camps which they term as "Pre-selection" Camp. The camp consist of drills, strength and conditioning and tactical elements rounded off with a series of friendlies. The goal is to identify potential candidates for the Superschools Campaign and also looking into academy sustainability.

Coach Akmal "The boys have shown good progress but still a lot of areas to improve. For the players, it is only a pre-selection, spots are not confirmed. There are players that did not make the pre-selection that have shown their fight to earn a spot. So we will continue to review and evaluate."

Academy Head Coach Dillan "My mindset is development and sustainability. So we've invited several of younger age group U14 2025 to be part of the pre-selection camp. Eventually, these boys are going to be the next leaders within the academy so let's them get them in early before 2026 starts."

This weekend is the final pre-selection camp before we enter 2026. Officially, the academy training sessions start again January 11 2026. Keep up the good work!

Cobra Rugby Club recently concluded it's annual Rugby Festivals over the last 2 weekends, Cobra 10s International and Cobra 10s Mini 2025. 2 of Malaysia's Major Rugby Events showcasing the local and international rugby. On that note, we have to give love to the Academy boys that have been putting in work! Congratulations and hope you boys had fun on your home ground! We checked the stats (we love stats at RMG) for the Blacks U15. Highest Number of Tries scored all tournament with ZERO tries conceded.

U15 Stingers: Booooommmmbbb Squaddd! 7th place.

U16 that faced upheaval this year finished a respectable 4th. It's been a tough year with high level competition. Well done!

Inaugural RMG League is done! Couldn't have done it without our basketball partners Huddle

The Finals was between KL Hornbills and TOFB (The Old Folks Basketball). KL Hornbills emerged champions overall and not only, they topped the league standings as well. Congratulations!

We look to improve the playing experience here at RMG and look forward to setting up more competitions. Thank you to all the teams for participating.

Inaugural RMG League for 2025 semis just got done yesterday.

The league playoffs will end today with the finals being played at 6.30pm this evening at RMG Court @ Cobra Rugby Club, PJ.
