Since SNOC Secretary General Mark Chay has called on Singapore Athletics to “come to the party” and win more gold medals, I’d like to showcase the reality of incentives for gold medals.

Singapore is by far the most expensive city and country to live in in Southeast Asia. Despite that, we are far off the top when it comes to incentives for winning gold.

An Indonesian winning gold is set for 3 years with the cost of living in Indonesia. A Singaporean winning gold? It might last you 3 months if you’re frugal.

Want more gold medals? Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.
