One thing I have become increasingly convinced about is this:
If we want stronger cyclists tomorrow, we need to give more young people a reason to start riding today. 🚴♂️🚴♀️
Grassroots development is not only about finding the next champion.
It is about creating places where children can ride safely, giving beginners a chance to experience racing, supporting clubs and coaches, and organising events that make people excited to be part of the sport.
Whether it is a pump track, BMX track, mountain bike trail, road event or eventually a velodrome, every facility and every race creates another doorway into cycling.
Sarawak has tremendous potential.
My hope is that over the coming years we can continue building more opportunities across our towns and communities, not only for elite athletes, but for the child picking up a bicycle for the first time.
Because before there is a state rider, a national rider or an Olympian, there is simply someone who discovers that they love riding a bicycle.
That is where development really begins. 🇲🇾❤️🚴
