Let’s be real, this is not something new. It is a systemic failure that keeps repeating itself.
1. National Sports bodies have lost their mission:
What is the actual Mission and Vision of our national bodies?
Is it only to take credit for podium athletes?
They seem to have forgotten that in any sport, everything starts from the development base.
What you get "up there" on the podium is exactly what you have "down there" at the roots.
If you poison the roots with low pay and disrespect, the tree dies.
2. Stop treating them as "Junior" :
Treating local development coaches as "junior" or "inferior" is an insult to the profession. Handling and nurturing young talent is a completely different job requiring a specialized skill set—often more demanding than managing finished athletes. They are not "juniors"; they are the foundation.
3. Where is the Support? Aside from the bare minimum monetary grants to state bodies, where are the programs? It is the National Body's responsibility to share technology, transfer training knowledge, and provide incentives to the locals who are doing the heavy lifting.
Insulting local coaches is a one-way ticket to moving Malaysian sports backwards. If the people in charge don't understand that the base determines the peak, then they are the ones who should go.
