When I first walked into jiu-jitsu in 2023 at , I started training with my brothers, Aidan, Yong, Ho. We where then the Four clueless white belts wrapped up in gi.

Then 2024 happened. I got kicked out of the current Daisho ( for skipping warmups )& The white belts who stayed got their blue belts. The guys who left with me? We had to hit reset.

Under Prof stringent grading, “almost there” means “wait next year.”

I joke about buying belts. Truth is, these guys paid more than anyone. Not with money. With time. With resilience . With starting over when it would have been easier to stay. The exodus cost us a year. Not just in rank, but in being split from people we trained & came up with.

So today, watching the crew finally get recognised for the hours, the rounds, the countless hours of pirated bjj fanatics studying… it hits different. This wasn’t a fast track. It wasn’t convenient. It wasn’t political.

It was earned. Congrats brothers , time to put "BJJ" in your IG username .

Sorry guys , drop ins not allowed anymore. Get your invitations by referrals from average members only. Bring a guest to our members means you're our guest. No drop in fee required. We're not exclusive, we're just trying to keep the mats safe for our members. Having an invitation means someone vouches for you. We like that.

*We’re Closing*(For New Memberships)

Not closing the gym. Relax.

But we are closing open access.

This year has been a big one for us. We’ve grown a lot. Some nights, the mats are full and the energy is high. I’m incredibly grateful for that.

At the same time, growth comes with responsibility.

I don’t want classes to feel overcrowded.
I don’t want coaches stretched thin.
And I don’t want the culture to slowly dilute.

What makes Average special is the attention, the control, and the people in the room. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by design.

As we grow, our responsibility is to protect that environment.

So here’s how we’re moving forward.

Step 1 – Effective Immediately

• No more drop-ins.
• New members may only join through referral from an existing member, followed by an onboarding process.
• We will be capping total membership at 200 members.
• ⁠There will be a waiting list

This ensures that everyone who steps on the mat is someone we collectively vouch for.

We are closing our doors to the public moving forward ( 31st March ) .

There will be a price revision for all *new members* to RM320/month.

Existing members and Founders Group are not affected.
Your current rate remains as promised.

The price increase applies across all our gyms — Average BJJ, AOS & Blueprint.

Average BJJ has formed an Independent Safeguard & Continuity Committee to protect our members — especially women and minors — and to hold everyone accountable.

This committee has real authority, zero tolerance for abuse, and the power to act without interference.

Safety is not promised here.
It’s enforced.
